I see the UK PM is apparently making plans to treat Covid like flu thanks to the Omicron variant being not as bad as the previous variants.
Maybe KevC can shed some light here but is there not just as much chance that the next variant could be worse again?
I've also thought for a while now that the UK would try and go for herd immunity with omicron. At the rate it's been spreading (reported yesterday at 1 in 15!) that's probably not far off. It's a short term, mild infection so it would make sense to do that. But you're right to be cautious. The 'job' of a virus is to keep going and mutate to evade the blocks in its way. The next major variant could be better or worse, we just don't know. It's worth remembering though that we haven't just had 4 variants. There are thousands but they are the only ones that have been 'variants of concern'.
