Who was the very first lead phpBB developer?

Post by axe70 »

Aciburn? (behind you)

It was 1998 i think.
There was 28/56kb modems.
Download accelerator was a software we used to download (large :D ) files.
100mb sometime was requiring 3 4 days but also 1 week, it was the unique solution resuming downloads.
We were using free web spaces to put online hacking communities, mainly using phpBB and vBulletin (unique socials solutions).
About this, what it will be the future of software like phpBB? (a question i seen elsewhere).
It think it will be great if will follow some rules, innovating thinks that will be possible to do with.

But this is another point.
My question is just this instead:
Where is Acidburn?
He was the first phpBB developer?
Is him still behind my shoulder? :) (his sign was ... behind you, and i liked it too much)
I always used to open phpBB community site at this time, looking behind me

In the hope all is still going GREAT for him.
Cheers!

Just a thought i liked to share

yes! Thank you!
Seen just this moment!
And if not wrong i already did this answer in the past :?

Is Acidburn still around? Who is him?

James Atkinson, Nathan Codding and/or John Abela or nobody of them?

p.s if i do not wrongly remember, the history lack of a part.
When phpBB was NOT free software and served into a server to create communities like another was doing, which i now forget the name.

Acyd Burn as AcydBurn as the account here, and he hasn't been involved for a while.

Jame Atkinson was thefinn, and left the project in 2007.

Nathan Codding and John left the team a long time ago as well.

phpBB was never paid software, however it was based on uBB in 2000-2001. You can find some history on wikipedia as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhpBB

Ok thank you!

I remember a service, and if not wrong online communities were based into something named phpBB.
The default skin was dark grey as background and yellow phpBB sign on top (if i am not wrong). It was 1998 i think.
It was one of free services as basic, where you were able to own an online community for free.

phpBB didn't exists in 1998, it was started in 2000. Back then it was mostly blue with gray if I remember correctly. There was as far I know never a yellow version of phpBB.

Meik (Acyd Burn) has his own life and work, a software house here in Germany.
He seems to be doing well as far as I know. :)

:o would be nice to try to load some of the crazies actual pages now, with this connection ahaha

I buy my first pc on 98, so i was 28. I passed trough 56, 128 then
in Italy Perugia was the experimental one, the first city in Italy with adsl (Perugia and few others cities or only PG i do not remember). If you own this you are a pioneer in some sense. It was like a dream. Nothing comparable anyway to what it is now. Days of downloads ... sometime finally, was more comfortable to get the cd from one of my friends that started weeks before the same download

ps i miss floppy disks :D

p.s in true my first pc was commodore 64 when i was, even i do not remember ... i think 11 so 1981? The very first time has come out.
But i only used it to play games. At this time games was coming into floppies also.
