As expected, the attending physicians were proven 100% correct, and FOXNews was proven 100% wrong:

Relevant excerpts:
LARGO, Fla.-- An autopsy on Terri Schiavo backed her husband's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. It also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused.

...

He said she would not have been able to eat or drink if she had been given food by mouth as her parents requested.

"Removal of her feeding tube would have resulted in her death whether she was fed or hydrated by mouth or not," Thogmartin told reporters.

He also said she was blind, because the "vision centers of her brain were dead."

...

"The brain weighed 615 grams, roughly half of the expected weight of a human brain," he said. "This damage was irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons."

Keep this in mind the next time you are tempted to rely on FOXNews for information. In a perfect world FOXNews would be chastened by being proven so completely wrong, and they would broadcast a profuse apology to Michael Schiavo for their false claims and slanderous treatment of him. But of course, this is not a perfect world.

It's good to see that it's certain the correct decision was made; Not that there was much doubt before.
An apology from FOX would be very nice - Can't see it happening though :(

I seem to recall saying myself that I believed there was nothing that could be done for her. I don't even remember paying attention to what fox news said about that. ho-hum.

Finally there is unrefutable proof of her state. I could not see how anyone thought that she could recover, and all the other things said. Its also nice to see that there is no sign that Michael Schiavo abused her. To me, that was one of the worst things that came about from this, all the mudslinging directed at him for no reason. I actually found that Michael Schiavo was the only person who took the high road in the whole incident, as he actually tried to keep the situation personal rather than parade around in front of tv cameras.

Sadly, the Reality Denial Squad is already out in full force. They're saying that her brain shrunk and rotted to half its size during the two weeks that she was without water, because it dehydrated. Unbelievable; as if two weeks is enough time for necrosis and massive atrophy to set into tissue which was supposedly still healthy at the beginning of this period (and of course, no one thinks to ask why the rest of her organs did not also shrink to half size).

Naturally, they disregard the fact that the medical examiner performing the autopsy states that this is impossible, because either A) he is part of the grand conspiracy of lies or B) science is no good. I can almost understand why her parents are clinging to this fantasy (after all, they're not thinking rationally because it's their daughter), but their supporters have no such excuse.

For the first time in 3 years a medical test has been completed on Terri.

The husband was and always will be the victim. Its sad how much the media can get away with and take no responsibility.

and by "the media," you mean what? cable tv? public? nbc? abc? pbs? attacking "the media" doesn't help improve any situation as the specific culprits can simply hide within that cover.

It's all about the ratings, and the media(as a whole, name one of the above that didn't cover the Terri Schiavo case) caters to what people want. Sadly, not many people give a crap about other's lives and got a good bit of entertainment out of the whole drama.

I'm quite confident no one gave a damn about Terri except her husband and family. The only reason people started protesting was the "rush" they receive from taking "moral highground" or "standing up against the man".

People just enjoy stirring up trouble. The only reason I can see in them doing an autopsy was to beat the dead horse of a topic a bit more.

The media just provides fresh meat for people to freak out about. It's how they make a living. Believe me, the media isn't ruining people's reputations on accident. They do it on purpose, and that's pretty much a well known fact; responsibility for it goes without saying.

Don't blame the media. If everyone was self-centered and didn't watch the news do you think their would be so many news channels?

Im not going to act like i never watch the news. How was this really important news to the people? I really didnt see a need. My point was that the media can destroy someones life forever in the public's eyes and have no consequence. Its hard to pick and choose what you see on TV news.

I don't know if I'd blame Fox News 100%. They didn't go looking hospital to hospital for a story to cover. Someone brought their attention to it. I'm sure they got both sides of it and, since there was no solid proof either way, went with the side that would become a long standing story. Just because it's supposed to be important news for the people, doesn't mean it's not a business.

"No solid proof either way?" A CAT scan and the medical diagnosis of the attending physician is not "solid proof"?

Why shouldn't we blame the media for their own misconduct? The fact that they make money for what they do is hardly an excuse for their misbehaviour. Do we exonerate the hitman because somebody paid him to do it?
