I didn't open anything :D :D :D . I'm just a user who got
promoted to site admin. There are only 3 site admins there,
including me. One of them is offline, the other one knows less
than I do about computing and is not comfortable speaking
english, so I came here... And got told off because the front
page doesn't display the link to phpbb.com. Well, not badly
told off, people here are friendly, but still, they won't help
before I put this link. And to put the link I need acces to a file,
when all I can acces is the admin control panel and the backup
file. Oh well, I've asked the person hosting the forum for the file,
I hope I get it soon.

In fact, none of the site admins is the person who set up the
forum... So all of you there, people who set up forums, don't
abandon your users! :D :D :D . There are over 200 users in
our forum, I'm the "best qualified" to sort out problems and I
haven't a clue what I'm doing!

So, if at some point you want to hand over the looking after
of your forum to one poor bewildered user, please make sure
he or she has acces to all the relevant files!

interesting.

i just started mine to see if i could even do it, and the main reasons were i wanted to archive my posts from other political forums. i tend to start threads, and i also have a habit of being very polemical and will push discussions to places they often may not need to go.

so, i am also a political science major / history minor who just went back to college in order to teach - and i suscribe to the notion that socialization and discourse are key ingrediants of learning.

so, as a teacher in training, i think that there are educational as well as "edutainment" possibilites.

but for the most part, its just a blog with a concept, in my case. and i find that most people moderate their boards too strongly, and suppress opinions.

eventually i would like to use it/apply it as a "fun" part of learning.

we are, after all, all political animals.

well I finally got mine opened. up. but I'm still working on it as I post, haven't even posted once yet, lol.

I started my site a while back dedicated to my two dogs Jake(whippet) and Lilly(Dalmatian). Although the site is starting to have more of Dalmatian leaning. I basically just wanted to start the forum as a place for dog owners to discuss dog-related stuff. With a Dalmatian and Whippet leaning, although I think it's good to discuss other breeds as well.

So I guess to answer the question, I started mine for fun. Just to create a dog-place to chat.

Hello everyone.

A bunch of us met at a gaming website and found ourselves constantly talking about history, politics, current events, art, music, etc.

So we spun off the gaming site and have formed a fun little community with members from all over the world.

We are just getting started and still have several members yet to show up to register. But I'm confident that in time we will have a buzzing community geared towards intellectual discussion and comradery.

Great thread, BTW Image

my partner and i wanted a site for adults to come together and discuss and debate various issues as well as have some fun and just chit chat with other members. :) there is no main theme, we just cover whatever we or our members want.

we're happy with it

cool thread idea, btw

How about not. ;-) That would constitute spam, and could eventually get this thread locked. Don't ruin the fun for everyone else...

I have no idea why I started my forum

Most likley because I could as had PHP and something to do with squirrels on the new hosting package I brought!

Oh that and I wanted to get the record for the most unused forum ever!

did your forum get to the size you wanted?

I opened my board to have a central place to go to as we started trying to find our former classmates from 16 years ago. All the other school sites charge for full access so I thought I could simply host the forum for all my former class mates to meet up...
