You do not send spam to staff members. They will not know. And if they find out, you just create another account and continue.

Breaking other boards rules and bad behavior is a no go - as a board admin, it would inform other boards with similar topics about you ...

And i would have "honeypot" users to catch someone like you ...

And do you not think that experienced board Admins cannot spot duplicate accounts a mile off.

If this is your attitude to "social media" then you seriously need to have a re-think

While spamming/advertizing can indeed give you new members it neither filters the quality of the members (other spammers as well?), nor their online activity (register once, visit once, never return).

Search on Google "rock forum". And spam the first results. ;)

Sure this has already been covered. But content is king.

A great way to generate content, is by making fake users, and while under those aliases share the content amongst “them” to appear as if you have an new yet active and organic community. The more you do this among yourself, the more content your forum will have, the more it will appear on search engines, and the more traffic you will generate and eventually actual members that aren’t just you.

People will tell you this is frowned upon, and deceitful, that you will probably get exposed and have your reputation tarnished. Whatever, in the real world you got to fake it to make it, just make sure you aren’t an idiot and you always use a different vpn or proxy for every account you use. If you can’t match up the IP’s there is nothing to prove, and thus nothing to expose ;)

I agree that using fake user accounts is not a good idea.
If you do it and any visitors to your board figure it out ( very easy to do )I believe that it will make them leave and not come back.
People in general do not like 'phonies".

also, it simply is not needed . you can just make all those same content filled posts under your own user account. google won't give you any better rankings just because of who the post says posted it.
google only cares about relevant content.
that is, relevant to what their users ( the ones that use google to search for relevant content on a given subject) are looking for.

remember, people don't go to google and look for your board. they want content about a subject matter.
if your board has lots of relevant /current content about that subject matter it will show up in thier search returns and they may click on your link.

I seriously doubt you would lose many visitors just because there are only a couple of members as long as there is plenty of posts/content about what they came for.
