December 2006 Desktops

Post by SAK ` »

XMAS is almost here, I am pretty sure nationwide XMAS shopping has been underway, and of course, I been shopping around my wallpaper folder to put on something calm and weird.

I turned 24 years old as of yesterday. Thanx phpBB and Merry XMAS to the staff.

@SAK: Wow, is that computer-generated?
@BeatMe: Where did all of your icon's pictures go?

Me, I just have the regular.

My icons' pictures have been changed to a couple of blank ones I made so I could see through them and see my background image better.

What I did was I hid my desktop icons so they are still saved in the desktop but not shown, then added my desktop as a toolbar folder.

When I put my mouse on the top of my screen:

Right click > Arrange Icons By > Uncheck Show Desktop Icons would work better.

There is no such option. Even if there was, I wouldn't want it, the icons on my desktop are useful during the rare moments I get to see them.

The only options in the "Arrange Icons" menu of the desktop context menu are:

by Name
by Type
By Size
By Date
--------------
Auto Arrange

It's there, you're running Windows 98 so you might not see it. My menu:
Windows XP wrote: Name
Type
Size
Date
--------------
Arrange in Groups
Auto Arrange
Align to Grid

--------------
Show Desktop Icons
Lock Web Items on Desktop
Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard
(Most options are disabled because I hide the desktop icons.)

To hide the icons and put them an an auto-hiding tray, uncheck "Show Desktop Icons".
Then, right-click the taskbar > "Toolbars" > check "Desktop".
Last, right-click some empty space on the new toolbar and check "Always on Top" and "Auto-Hide".

That's an aerial photo of my home, street, and neighborhood. That tiny red bit that's just to the right of center.... that's a car parked in my driveway.

I've been using that wallpaper for months. Trying to convince myself that it is a security camera. :)

I saw your post, I was sort of responding to it too but I forgot to quote you as well.

I am not using Windows 98, I am using Windows 2000 Professional.

I think that the 'Hide all' feature was added in XP.
