should we have a suggestion board

Post by jwxie » Wed Jan 09, 2008 2:37 am

um.. should we have a suggestion board for official site suggestion?
like most forums do, a suggestion board for us to give advices or discuss official board except for phpbb support
or even when there is a bug on the site, or something may need to report to the team, the team can check it up

just my own suggestion
no bug trackers for phpbb ^^

** suggestion board does not allow chatting, limit to only suggestion and replies regarding to the problems**

Should there be a "Suggestion Board"? I vote for "yes". Unless there is another board on this site where it is highly appropriate to discuss things like that. (If there is, somebody please inform me. I was unaware of such.) Otherwise I think it would be a good thing.
I will gladly help anybody with any PhpBB Modifications that I have used. (My board can be accessed by clicking here. You are also welcome to post there any time you like.)
PhpBB helped me when I needed it and I would be glad to give something back to the community.

I vote yes. Suggestion boards often provide valuable insight into what users want from your site or product. It would be much easier for us to suggest options, changes etc. for future releases of phpBB.

There is a page for feature requests on SourceForge, but it's closed for now. I believe they'll reopen it after 3.2 (which won't be released anytime soon).

Feature requests are still being taken for phpBB 3.2, and the feature tracker is open -- Note the number of users who have submitted feature requests recently.

Hmm, so why is this notice still there?
Please note!

Thanks for all your submissions. The list of features for phpBB 3.0.x is now being frozen.

The suggestion tracker, it seems to me, is an asset to the development team. Their time is limited and valuable. Why ask them to follow various suggestion discussions when we can help them by writing up a thoughtful suggestion?

As for the community and our opportunity to bat around ideas, we've had area51 for years, since before 2.0.0 release. My thought is that adding a forum for discussing ideas would be redundant.

So really, in my view, we already have the best of both worlds: something concise for the developers, and something less structured for community interaction over ideas, even over features already in a development version.
