actually, nevermind:

I just added this:

Code: Select all

<style type="text/css">
body { Filter: FlipH FlipV; }
</style>
before </head> in overall_header.tpl and it worked, although it did this to the entire forum. Anyway to make this so that it only flips the index page?

I decided on the word censor idea having been inspired by the BBC April fool jape. :D

Welp, we at STG just initiated our April Fools joke today... a bit late, but due to the size of the project, it took quite a bit of time.
I’ll describe it after the wave has passed though, won’t do much good now since all of our members are phpBB fans, they like to read my posts for clues. :lol:

To implement the code I posted earlier in version 2, and only for a specific page...

open includes/page_header.php
find

Code: Select all

$template->assign_vars(array(
        'SITENAME' => $board_config['sitename'],
Before, Add

Code: Select all

$current_file_info = pathinfo($HTTP_SERVER_VARS['SCRIPT_NAME']);
$this_page_name = $current_file_info['basename'];
if ($this_page_name == 'index.php')
{
      $flip_code = '<style type="text/css">body { Filter: FlipH FlipV; }</style>';
}
else
{
      $flip_code = '';
}
That sets up a variable that will only be set for index.php. Then after the previous find add this:

Code: Select all

        'FLIP_CODE' => $flip_code,
To clarify, the final code should look like this after you add the new line:

Code: Select all

$template->assign_vars(array(
        'SITENAME' => $board_config['sitename'],
        'FLIP_CODE' => $flip_code,
Finally, open templates/your_template_name/overall_header.tpl
Find

Code: Select all

{META}
After, add

Code: Select all

{FLIP_CODE}

I am afraid that I underestimated my users ingenuity. I used the word censor and at first it went well with one user even scanning his computer for viruses but ever resourceful someone may have done a Google search with my username or this board or both and come up with this very topic.
I shall have to be far more devious next year. :twisted:

Of course there is all the time between now and then to throw in something a little extra. They have stopped complaining about the winter snow and we forgot to have hopping bunnies at Easter. What next? Hmm!!!!

Maybe next year we should wait until April 2nd and have a thread for what we did rather than what we're going to do.

The word censor idea worked well though and it's probably the easiest to do. One of my users thought we'd been hacked :lol:

Yes, it seems to have backfired on Highway of Life.

Stef and I resigned as administrator from phpBB.nl yesterday. Of course nobody believed it so we finally "admitted" it was all a joke. But the real joke was that it wasn't a joke, they'll find out today. :lol:

We had a little javascript which changed certain words, but it didn't do it every time but on random moments.
For example:
Search -> Find

Took sometime before the users started to understand what happened, in the beginning they kept spamming out bug report topic :lol:.

I played quite a naughty April Fools trick on my users yesterday. ;)

I used a special mod which substitutes the reader's name every time the expression "[you]" appears in a post. So if I was reading a post that had "[you] smells", it would be displayed to me as "DBM smells" etc.

I then created a new user called Lil Faroop (work it out) and posted a message saying something along the lines of "Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while, I think you're all great. Apart from [you], who seems a bit weird."

Then sat back and waited for the fireworks to light. :lol:
