Feature requests?

I'm trying to work out where you're supposed to submit them, if at all?

If you're not meant to submit feature requests, what about improvements? They aren't bugs...?

Perhaps i've overlooked it, but it wasn't obvious enough.

Hopefully someone will direct me to the correct place.

The 3.0.x line is feature frozen.
For the 3.2.x line is a discussion about new features over at the area51 development board. So best is to try there.

If you want something that is currently not in 3.0.x then post in 3x MOD requests and see if someone will make it for you.

Sure, I can make them myself, but I'd rather everyone reap the benefits, which is why I want to suggest the feature(s).

Where in the area51 development board do you suggest I post? I couldn't' figure that out either.

In general, no feature requests are accepted for 3.0. For 3.2 there is a feature tracker on sourceforge. Please only use the sourceforge tracker for requests that already got a nod of approval

Out of experience, discussing features and their merit here or at area51 works better than using an obscure tracker - if your feature has a point, is feasible and gets approval from the community, then an adoption into the core is entirely possible. The team is part of this community after all

Ultimately, my first issue with phpBB3 is the installer.

It's far too long, and could be improved quite considerably to make it easier and simpler for users to install.

It's part feature request, part improvement suggestion. I'd like to see a better installer.

I had a few other suggestions on possible improvement, but they could possibly be mods, I still need to investigate the correct route for some features I have deemed required.

The question is, where is the best place to raise discussion about such possible improvements?

How do you suggest the installer be made simpler? All of the information is necessary, so there's really no way to shorten it.

Having it on less page for a start, I think I counted about 8 pages...

Take a look at wordpress's 5 minute setup, they defiantly got that right.

But you only have to do it once.
You only have to add a username, password and the database info.
Some of those pages are just confirmation and telling you it's ok to carry on.

if you have the right information in front of you it's probably less than a five minute job too.

What I mean is, it's not something you have to do numerous times to get your board installed. It doesn't really matter if it's 20 pages long, if you only have to do it the once and you get a board out of it at the end I'm sure people don't mind too much. The amount of information you have to add is pretty minimal. In fact you really only have to type things in on two pages if I remember rightly.

What's the alternative?
One very long page? If you did that and there was a problem, you would have to scour all the information to find what's been flagged up. This way you get one page, that's correct, move to the next page etc. It's a very logical process and it also helps us solve installation problems for people because we know certain tasks have been successful and you can target much more easily where the problem is.

You're the first person I've seen who hasn't liked it.
And you still haven't really mentioned anything that's wrong with it.

Insulting isn't the best way to get your point across. You may think it isn't as good as it could be, but I think it is great. Crap it is not.
