Edit what?
There was nothing to edit. :lol:

I am sure though that the topic will prove successful.
I have not converted to phpBB3 myself but do follow the topics. I see for example that some folks are experiencing a lot of problems updating from phpBB3.0.1 to 3.0.2 and someone tells me that it is down to the search and maybe the work around is to empty the search tables and then rebuild them after the upgrade.

The problem I had was regarding the database - while updating from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2. I found nothing working at all. I couldn't enter any links/pages within the forum. My forum would forget every time I logged in when I tried to enter the ACP. My mistake was that I didn't run the databaseupdate.php file.

Everything went back to normal after that.

Huge problem with phpBB 3.0 is to update your board when you have lots of MOD's installed on your forum. But there's a nice MOD installer in the works in MOD Development section that should help things along well.

I cannot confirm this. With over 40 mods installed and hundreds of small changes to the core files I had only one error reported when I updated 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 and that one I managed to fix myself.

Like a space between "[3.0.x]" and "Tweaks" in the title?

Using SPHINX for search and converting the busy tables to INNODB is usually enough. (modulo server configuration)

Certainly the case in my experience.

is this a discussion about tweaks for large forums or just how the update process has failed, the topic title has been beautified, etc, etc, etc??? anyway, although these can be used on any board (and dont really effect performance i think), here is my list...

i dont like the MODERATORS: list displayed anywhere, so i removed it
OPEN:

Code: Select all

styles/prosilver/template/forumlist_body.html
FIND AND DELETE:

Code: Select all

					<!-- IF forumrow.MODERATORS -->
						<br /><strong>{forumrow.L_MODERATOR_STR}:</strong> {forumrow.MODERATORS}
					<!-- ENDIF -->
OPEN:

Code: Select all

styles/prosilver/template/viewforum_body.html
FIND AND DELETE:

Code: Select all

	<!-- IF MODERATORS --><strong><!-- IF S_SINGLE_MODERATOR -->{L_MODERATOR}<!-- ELSE -->{L_MODERATORS}<!-- ENDIF -->:</strong> {MODERATORS}<!-- ENDIF -->
OPEN:

Code: Select all

styles/prosilver/template/viewtopic_body.html
FIND AND DELETE:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF MODERATORS or U_MCP -->
	<p>
		<!-- IF MODERATORS -->
			<strong><!-- IF S_SINGLE_MODERATOR -->{L_MODERATOR}<!-- ELSE -->{L_MODERATORS}<!-- ENDIF -->:</strong> {MODERATORS}
		<!-- ENDIF -->

	</p>
<!-- ENDIF -->

more to come later...

That's not really a tweak for large forums, persay. It's also not really necessary if you set moderator permissions using groups, which I believe is the preferred method in phpBB3.

If one installs this tweak he better also remove the respective PHP code or he won't get the full acceleration possible.

Moderators are cached; there is no gain whatsoever. If you don't want them listed, then turn it off in the ACP.

actually, they are still displayed (note that this is only for user-defined groups, not phpbb3 built-in groups)

for large forum, one of my suggestion is to close down your search function
instead, let the google deal with it
since you claim it's a big forum, huge forums, sometime there is only needed for google to get you the search results
