Well I'm more of a graphical editor. Care to share which one you guys think i should do and the best way to do it. I would like to keep subscribing to topics but that posting lag just kills it.

If somebody has that many banned users, I have to wonder if they're banning spammers instead of deleting them. Banning spammers is silly; spammers should be deleted and, if necessary, their usernames should be disallowed.

Yea it seems to be just user names. I can clear the banned users since i do ban them by ip as well, but will it slow down from the ips as well?

You should only ban by IP if you see the same IP address/range a lot or if you don't care about traffic from a particular country/ISP.

As for the above query slowing down, notifications aren't done by IPs, so removing banned users should speed things up.

SELECT *
FROM phpbb_users
WHERE user_type = 1
ORDER BY user_inactive_time DESC
LIMIT 10

SELECT * FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_type = 1 ORDER BY user_inactive_time DESC LIMIT 10
Id Select Type Table Type Possible Keys Key Key Len Ref Rows Extra
1 SIMPLE phpbb_users ref user_type user_type 1 const 46874 Using where; Using filesort

Before: 5.97781s | After: 62.00491s | Elapsed: 56.02709s
how about a small experiment - try to index user_inactive_time ?
something like this (this is from memory - you might want to verify that it actually work)
you can add the index, measure the timing, and if it doesnt help, remove the index:
to add:

Code: Select all

alter table phpbb_users add index user_inactive_time (user_inactive_time);
to remove:

Code: Select all

alter table phpbb_users drop index user_inactive_time;
Had to do this to mine! Works great!

This is a seven year old topic and I would be extremely cautious as to whether it would work with phpBB 3.2 as there have been many changes to the database since 3.0

Plus there is no longer any support for 3.0 so if it all goes peculiar you will be on your own.

Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
