I'll have to admit its not something I've researched, my robots.txt file denies Bots from file.php If it was an issue I would have thought that I'd have seen it by now, I would have assumed with the right mime type that a SE would consider it an image. In any event it's certainly a plausible explanation why the OP's images are not being indexed.<img src="./download/file.php?avatar=156933_1220530796.gif" width="90" height="90" alt="User avatar" />
If it's a thumbnail or full size image in post it is. Considering the above I'd imagine it doesn't see anything for either the thumbnail or the full size image, I'll look around and see what I can find regarding images sent without an image extension. Having said that even if it had a valid file extension and a SE indexed it the only information to index is the filename. There is the possibility of the image also having EXIF data that *might* be read by bot but unless the user fills that info out its not going to contain more than the date and time it was taken, camera used etc. In General only pros will be utilizing EXIF but I wouldn't discount it's SEO potential.SamG wrote: Attached images are treated as links in posts and not images. The title and alt attributes preserve the filename, but what does Google "see" at the end of the link?
