Using PHPBB to help my company...

Post by KevinB2002 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 7:08 pm

Ok so my boss has asked me to put together a webpage where we can check our schedules and events for the store.

What they use for scheduleing is Excel.

Are Excel documents compatible with phpbb forums? like if i made an attachment would it show the document inside the post itself?

also can i make a forum section do something along the lines of...well lets say i make a post and i want it to actually be the news column on the main page. is this possible?

and if this is all possible where can i learn to set this all up?

you won't be able to show excel documents in a post. phpbb is a forum software, it has no clue what a spreadsheet is.

you can provide them for download, or, you can convert them to html and then display them as any other web page.

i think it would be a downloadable file, not show the actual contents.

a lovely (and very long) 34 page thread here regarding that.

You'll probably want to try Google for that -- alternatively, I believe Excel can also export in HTML and a series of other options (text as well). Keep in mind, though, you cannot use HTML with phpBB3 so you'd need to host it elsewhere or convert it to a series of custom BBCodes.

Also, can upload documents to http://www.scribd.com/ and show the excel document in board with a custom scribd bbcode.
I abandoned all of my mods.

You could just download a mod that allows you to post html. I know for a fact there is one somewhere...
Then you just export the excel document as an html and post the contents of the html file in your post. Should work fine...

That would introduce a severe security vulnerability to your forums and as such is not recommended nor encouraged.
