Hmm this is quite the interesting project. I would like to see more Javascript in the new phpbb features though.

Just a note: I've noticed that in the dropdown box for choosing your version of phpBB, one of the options is for phpBB2. Since phpbb.com dropped support for phpBB2 in January, isn't that a bit misleading to put phpBB2 in the list? Unless you put phpBB2 in the list so that people can choose it when they are needed support with converting from phpBB2 to phpBB3. Is that why phpBB2 is on the list - for support with upgrading? Just checking to make sure.

In my opinion it's handy just for people saying: "Hey, my version isn't in there", while they're using phpBB2. When they select phpBB2, they'll get the message that phpBB2 isn't supported and that they can get help for converting to phpBB3. Not misleading, just to prevent such a questions, I think. Than people directly know that they can't ask for phpBB2 support.

Tom, have you seen which message you receive when you chose "phpBB2" in that list?

There is only one message:

Information
phpBB2 is not supported as of 1 January, 2009. We recommend you upgrade to phpBB3. For help doing this, please post in the support forum.

Go to the Support Forum

Maybe change this:

Are you attempting to convert to phpBB from another board software?

to

Are you attempting to convert to phpBB from another board software or upgrade from one phpBB version to another?

Then set it to only show the information message if phpBB2 is selected and they answer the question "no". Or maybe I am just making it more confusing.

Your worry being, what if someone is converting from phpBB2 to phpBB3 (which is supported) and they select phpBB2 as the version they are having trouble with, instead of the phpBB3 version they are converting to?

Maybe it's less complicated to just expand the message displayed when picking phpBB2 with this: "If you are converting from phpBB2 to phpBB3, please select the version of phpBB you are converting to." Other than that, it "works" for this scenario. You would select "no" for converting from another board software to phpBB and than later state you are converting from phpBB2.

I think there are no needs for a change - the option on the first page shows "a different board software", and if you select yes you get redirected to the Convertors forum. I have seen none or very few v2->v3 conversion topics in it with the SRT.

That doesn't mean no one that has conversion issues would come across the SRTG

(Especially if the SRTG would ever become mandatory for posting in the support forums). With that said, people are probably clever enough themselves to change the phpBB version to the version they are converting to, if they run into the phpBB2 dead end. Then again, it never ceases to amaze me how silly people can be

BTW, shouldn't phpBB1 also be an option?

No, I have not. I suppose I should have looked into the option more before posting about it, though I had a feeling that it wasn't overlooked. Thanks.

- MOD you have install in you board

also the board URL must be a Required fields
