phpBB 4 Or Next Version?

Post by Xtracker! » Fri Apr 10, 2009 3:05 am

Well I just wondering what will phpBB 4 include. Or phpBB 3.0.5!

Just think about it...

All cool BETA mods finish!
AutoMod finish!
New amazing styles.
Better security against Hackers, Spammers, and all those bad stuff.
Or maybe even pay for the next version :o

Not while we have anything to say about it.

If you have extra money laying around, you should consider making a donation to OSUOSL, our host.

As for features in the next version, take a look here: http://www.phpbb.com/blog/2008/09/19/lo ... -ascraeus/

Invision and vBulletin are cool but can be rip-offs for newbies.

vBulletin still uses a frameset for admin panel. Definitently a ripoff(not just based on that). I'd say phpbb is more simple than vBulletin. I've never used Invision before

And why would anyone pay for phpbb? Its been free since its start. Not the best idea to turn a free server into a paid service.
And I think what will be in phpBB 4 will depend on what PHP has to offer(partly) and what MODs are avaliable.
Maybe some ideas of mods might be put in to phpBB.

it would be great if this version get release but devs are also not free... it requires too much time & hard work.
don't think about it before 2010.

What version? Version 4? Why?
Its just a number ;). The framework of phpBB 3 is very solid and the system contains a lot of functions and 3.2 will only be better. It really doesn't matter whether the version is called 3.2 or 4 or 6.5, it matters what it gives you. We probably won't be looking towards a "version 4" any time soon as this will cause a complete rewrite of the system and the logic behind it.

It is true that phpBB itself is free when you install it - but phpBB can also be for hardcore graphic artists that seek to make money off of custom and appealing templates they create. I already know at least one example. :)

You know I like how Ubuntu names their versions lol
i don't know if any of you know, exoperience users will know
it's every 6 month release,
so it's 7.04, 7.10, 8.04, 8.10, 9.04 for example

so the latest version will be 2009 April (9.04)
LOL

By that time the dev team can have decided to change the version numbering system :geek:. I personally feel something for a system with negative version numbers :P
