As far as I'm aware, Bertie is one of the creations of SHS` (former project manager) that has become the official mascot from phpBB. Just remember Bertie is and will always be watching over you. :geek:

Do you see any staff openings any time soon?

phpBB doesn't go down the application route when trying to get new team members, instead we look at community members who are active, look to have good knowledge of phpBB and supportive. Your best chance of joining the team is being active. You don't really have to know any coding - stick to support and help out there if you can. If you're good with html/css, you cold jump into styles. Or if you are a coder, how about creating a few MODs or submit a few patches/bug reports :)

It's not really a matter of open positions, people who do good work and put in good effort in certain areas (wherever it is the specific team focuses) may be invited by the team leader if the team leader feels that additional members are needed on the team and that person appears suitable to the tasks of the team.

If you do good work over a period of time in the area you are interested in (support/mods/styles/dev) you might get invited at some point, but it's not something you can just jump into, it requires a lot of devotion to the project and the only way we can see that is in how active you are in your interested areas.

Good to know! I always wondered, did you guys make the ranks you use yourselves, or were they already out there?

These rank images were made by former style team leader Erisar. :)
So yeah, they're custom.

That's awesome! It's always great to have original stuff. Is there any one specific creator of phpbb, or was it a collaborative?

Very nice story you guys have. By being part of the phpbb team, do you guys gain a lot more activity in your forums?

I have multiple personal forums, but none of them are very active. It turned out I spent far more time working on phpBB itself than my own forum :)
