okay we all have that small line across the bottom of our forums

but what if the administrator is looking for a far higher profile publicity banner to highlight the site's use of phpBB? I know the sub Silver2 and prosilver styles come with ready made phpBB logos and that is the sort of thing I'm talking about

but many administrator's are not prepared to advertise their site is phpBB to that higher degree on their site (and replace the default logo the first day)

so if a higher profile "phpBB banner" lower down the index body - showing that the site is phpBB with a logo similar to the default logo supplied - is desired we should have a goodies page on phpBB to go where we can download (prosilver and subsilver2) logos, info, slogans, headline phrases that could easily be put into a 700 x 200 banner across the middle of the index page to promote phpBB

okay 90% of administrators would ignore it but I'm betting many would love it

Check out [Spam link removed]. I put the phpBB logo in a large box in overall_footer.html below the copyright. I thnk that gives more props to phpBB than the simple copyright without being too obtrusive at the top.

I wish phpBB would make the logo configurable in the ACP where you put the board's name and move the phpBB logo to the bottom like that.

I like the idea or referral type banners. I might be good if a page could be set up on .com :)
I literally just setup an area on my own site for this a few days ago. Seems to be working a little

You mean something like this?
Simple addition to overall_footer.html, and simple thanks to the folks at phpBB - who made this FREE software available to the world. :)

I am talking about making a 700 x 200 banner trumpeting loud that the site is powered by phpBB

we should have a resources page on .com that we can plunder for phpBB logos, small/ med/ large /very large, headline text, sentences, all the components that make it easy to put together such a banner in prosilver or subsilver2

why should each member find it hard to do this? it should be made easy for anybody who wants to do it surely

What's so special about 700 x 200? This is the second time you mentioned those specific dimensions.

Did you look at my forum and see how it looked? It resizes to whatever dimensions your browser is set to (more specifically, it resizes as much as the board itself does).

I think they should just give you code fragments to paste where you want them. Here's what I use:

Code: Select all
      <!-- ADDED BY SHM -->
      <br />
      <div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span></span>
         <a href="http://www.phpbb.com/" target="_phpbb" class="copyright" title="phpBB Home Page" style="background-color: #12a3eb; display: block;">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a><br />
      <span class="corners-bottom"><span></span></span></div>

I'm not sure why the corners aren't rounded, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Steve

P.S. I just noticed that my link in the previous post was removed as a "spam link". That's kind of bogus as it was clearly illustrating what this topic was talking about. It's especially bogus because whoever removed it didn't leave their name to talk to about it.

To see the forum, go to the link in my signature and append "/discuss".

cheers Steve

700 x 200 is just to give an idea of the size

the entire width of prosilver or subsilver2 and a couple of inches down - to give a rough idea

thanks for your reply but don't you think a specific page on this site to help users do this would be a plus? a goodies page to allow us to help ourselves to the images and the correct slogans that would make an accurate and impacting banner

I'll give your code a go, cheers! :D

A separate page (probably in the Customize section) would be good, but I think all you would need are code and maybe some logo images. Any text would be in the code itself, and you're going to need code to display these things anyway.

The bigger problem for text is localizing it, but I assume British English would be the default.

I still say that we should have a resources page on this site that we can plunder for phpBB logos, small/ med/ large /very large, headline text, sentences, all the components that make it easy to put together such a banner in prosilver or subsilver2 promoting phpBB

but if nobody else cares, I give up :(

here's an idea for prosilver in the meantime!! :mrgreen:

Code: Select all
<BR><div class="forabg"><div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span></span>
   <ul class="topiclist forums">
      <li class="row">
         &nbsp; Powered by phpBB &#169; 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group
      </li>
   </ul>
   <ul class="topiclist">
      <li class="header">
         <table cellspacing="19"><tr><td><font size="2" color="white">Millions of people use phpBB on a daily basis, making it the most widely used open source bulletin board system in the world.

<BR><BR>No other bulletin board software offers a greater complement of features, while maintaining efficiency and ease of use. Best of all, phpBB is completely free. </font></td><td><A HREF="http://www.phpbb.com/"><img alt="read more about phpBB" border=0 src="your site's /phpBBsite-logo-.gif"></A>
</td></tr></table>
      </li>
   </ul>
   <span class="corners-bottom"><span></span></span></div></div><BR>

extrememly amateur but paste it into your index body somewhere

WORKED FOR ME :twisted:

(this would be in ADDITION to the overall footer "Powered by ...." not instead of ;) )

Currently we are working on logos/banners users can place as they please, I don't believe we will have advertising blurbs such as yours premade as well.

that is excellent, thanks iwisdom, I think when this page opens - a lot of dedicated phpBB admins will plunder it to emphasise where their site "comes from" - it saddens me to hear of admins who actually go to their overall footers and delete the copyright message :( unbelievable!

I don't know if it's better but I have this (in lieu of the text)

Image

with a link embedded (that does not use target="_blank" as I like to be W3c compliant).

The bb's should be capitalized. :(

We'd prefer people not to use the old branding, ie the non capitalised bb and the tents.
