At the time of the announcement my host was running 5.1.6, too. But last week the updated to 5.2.12 without me telling them anything...
I'm guessing that your host - if they are good in their job - will do something similar, too...
My mods in MODDB:

If you need support click on the support tab there and post your question.
Do not PM me - chances of viewing my PMs are way thinner than viewing the support question in the customization DB...

Maybe someone can help me out with this...
phpBB tells me in "PHP Information" that I'm running PHP 4.4.9, but I'm pretty sure that I'm using PHP5...

http://thecruelcrue.com/phpBB3/phpinfo.php5
That's in the directory that my phpBB installation is in. My webhost is 1&1 and it's a linux server if that helps. Any help would be appreciated...

Sorry should have clarified a bit... what I don't understand is that the phpinfo tells me I'm running 5.2.13, but phpBB tells me I'm running 4.4.9 and displays the "The version of PHP on this server will no longer be supported by future versions of phpBB. Details" message in the ACP. Also there is no discernible way to change what version of PHP I'm using in the 1&1 control panel, so I don't understand why it would be using 4 and not 5.

I seem to remember a user here recently had this problem. Turns out that their host had separate settings for domain and sub-domains. So the domain was set to 5.X while their sub-domains had 4.X set. Might ask your web host about this.

Indeed. My first suggestion would be to rename that phpinfo.php5 to phpinfo.php and see what it reports then.

Hi all,

i usually update as fast as i can to the next new phpbb releases every time becaus i welcome software that is up to date, but i also welcome stable server operation systems like Red Hat enterprise linux.

Now i just can pray that till you release 3.1 Enterprise linux systems like REHL have support for php 5.2.
And no, manualy adding repositories from thirdparty isn't a solution for me on over 300 servers.
My experience with such a solution i have made with samba and sernet repo because samba have had a bug an lost the Domainjoin to Apple Open Directory and the update next time was only a handy job no automtion was possible.

Do you have an approximate conception when the new version should be out? 3 month? 6 mont? A year?
So i can put date in my ical to prepare my systems early bevore phpb 3.1 is out.

bye maggo

We won't discontinue 3.0 until at least 6 months after 3.1 is released, if the situation with distros and 5.2 support is still a problem we can consider extending security support for 3.0.

As has always been the case, we do not attempt to predict release dates. There are simply too many variables to take into account. I would say "by the end of the year" is a reasonable estimate.

Six months for betas and RCs?

I'm curious, will 3.1.x support PDO or will the development team continue to use their own DBAL? If I may just add my thoughts, the phpBB DBAL is pretty powerful, but PDO doesn't require phpBB to maintain it's own backend. Thoughts?

Such major architectural changes won't be made in 3.x line. If anything, the move away from our own DBAL would be done in 4.x and no sooner. There is already preliminary notes for something like this on the wiki: http://wiki.phpbb.com/display/DEV/PhpBB4+DBAL+Component

I have PHP 4.3.4 on my server.
In the past I tried to update this one, but then PHPBB didnt work anymore.
I finally get everything worked back again with the old version.

Is there a possibility to inform me/us how to updat your PHP on your own server?
