Godaddy usually lets you switch PHP versions quite easily. Talk to support and see what they can do for you.RHitman wrote:Hello
Wow I am so confused now and It is not you guys I know it is me not knowing much about this forums and stuff.
Confused and if this should not be continued here please please point me to the right section.
Our host is Godaddy
our version is
Current 3.07 PLI
PHP Version 4.4.9 so here godaddy is way behind
And this is where I am confused
Since I/We threw FTP loaded and installed this forum a few years back and have been updating it threw here.
I don't understand how or what godaddy.com would have to update did I/we install the wrong or outdated version 4.4.9 back then or does this have something to do with the server files that allow us to run PHP forums
I think it is called my SQL or something like that.
I guess I need to kown what I have to tell godaddy to update and in updating to 5.2 will that lead to a loss of post and stuff.
I am nervous that I will lose years of post and info and have to start new man would that be a shame and my members would be just pissed
Thank you
Ruben M.
All of that is stored in the database (MySQL) which is not directly connected to PHP or it's version. I would follow the suggestion given by zenpher and contact GoDaddy.RHitman wrote:I am nervous that I will lose years of post and info and have to start new man would that be a shame and my members would be just pissed
Like GoDaddy, you can switch to PHP5 on 1&1 quite easily. Contact their support for help.kapcha wrote:My version is - PHP Version 4.4.9.
I am with 1&1 hosting,
Iv paid for the webspace and uploaded and installed the forums myself.
Would i still need to contact 1&1 for them to update this or is this something i need to do myself as i cant really see how 1&1 would be affecting something iv installed myself, if that makes sense?
Or move to a better company.Phil wrote:Like GoDaddy, you can switch to PHP5 on 1&1 quite easily. Contact their support for help.

Do the hosts on that page all use 5.3?Marshalrusty wrote:At this point, if your host hasn't bugged you to update to PHP5 (at least once mentioned it somewhere), it's time to start shopping around for something better.
All the hosts on the Hosting page here, for example, are checked to make sure that they use the latest versions of software. This does not guarantee perfection, of course, but it at least demonstrates a basic competency.

.htaccess
file but you'll have to contact your host about that.
