You never could delete a modification upload in the past, why would you think you could do this now?

I highly doubt if permissions to delete contributions will be given to mod authors.

I have a couple of non validated mods and a double post that I would like to delete.

With Titania each author has his own area where he can manage his mods.
Deleting mods should be a part of it because being able to delete your own work is only fair.

There could be several reasons for wanting to delete a mod.
Like in my case:
A double
Mods that failed validation and that I know I never will work on again.
Or ir could be validated mods that have errors that makes the mod unusable.
It could an old mod that doesnt work on newer phpbb versions and author doesnt want to update it or simply just doesnt know how.
Or maybe the author just doesnt want to share his work here on phpbb.com
We can all have our opinion on this, but again, its the authors own work.

IMO archiving them doesn't hurt. You never know, perhaps someday somebody wants to take over one of your old MODs.

File a bug report. I'm not going to allow such a delete for validated MODs though. Only non-validated ones.

In that case it would be better to be able to mark your mod as ABD. Then it would appear in a "pool" where other authors could pick them up and take authorship of the mod.

So what you are saying here is if/when you submit a mod, you simply lose ownership of the mod and have no saying about where and if it should be available?

Some discussion of this post continues in the split off licensing topic.

No you don't lose ownership. If you're going to abandon it or if you're going to not support it here on phpbb.com then you can make a note for the MOD. However once a MOD is validated and released to the MODDB you can no longer withhold the MOD from the community simply because you don't have time or whatever other reason. If you don't have time then someone else does and they can continue support of the MOD if they wish. That's the point of having a community ;) You weren't able to delete approved MODs before and for good reason and I see no need for that now either.

This is similar to snippets that are posted, for example, a snippet that I posted on my forum that has been taken and posted on someone else's forum.

EG, http://www.rmcgirr83.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91 which you have copy pasted onto your site.

How is this different? I don't ever recall you asking for approval from me, the mod author, to do that.

(Just to be clear, I don't really care...just using it as an example).

Seems pretty simple to me actually. You don't want your mod out in the public, then don't upload it into the MODDB. If you do want it made available but then decide later you don't, I say tough nuggies. Whimsicalness should not come into play.

Much ado about nothing, IMHO.

@stokerpiller: We will be modifying the disclaimers and acknowledgements shown when submitting a MOD/style to be validated to make it clear that once approved, it cannot be removed from the site. In the case where there is a security issue with a MOD the MOD Team would need to be notified so proper action can be taken. Thanks for bringing it up.

Yes, perhaps somewhere in the My Contributions page, so the developers have quick access to these tools...

All of that information is in http://www.phpbb.com/mods/ and shouldn't really make it into the CDB as it pertains specifically to phpBB.com's policies and tools regarding MODs which will not necessarily apply to other sites. ;)
