Subject Prefixes
A MOD that allows users to easily give topics a subject prefix. This may be through a dropdown menu, radio boxes, a custom text input field, etc where a user can select the appropriate option and have it appended to the front of the topic title.
This one's right up my alley. Time to get to work!
It would be nice if the Prefix didn't shorten the space for the Subject. In other words, store the Prefix separately in the Topics/Posts table (I haven't checked the database lately) from the title.

Also, is the prefix supposed to only be displayed on the topic, or should it be displayed for each post by default? And what happens if topics with different prefixes get merged?

Just some thoughts....

Steve

P.S. Are "staff" members eligible for prizes, too, especially MOD team members? That could be a conflict of interest. :D

No, team members won't compete for the prizes.

A bit more in the requirements for the requested MODs would be nice.

For example, for the Thank You / Ratings MOD, what does "Allows users to thank a poster by rating a post or topic" really mean? If I give a post/topic a low rating, is that really thanking the author?

To me, author thanks and topic/post rating are two different features. If somebody does just one "half" of that (thanks or ratings), will they be eiligible for the special prize? And, if somebody submits separate Thanks and Rating MODs, will they get two entries in the special drawing?

Another example is Custom User Ranks. You ask that "Users can select their own rank or custom title within the UCP", but do these somehow have to be tied to post counts or permissions? (Personally, I'd rather see a customizable permission system, where each permission could be tied to a rank or post count, or auto-promote groups, where users were automatically promoted to different groups based on post count or rank.)

Just curious,

There's no real answer to any of that 8-)

The author, whomever it may be, has freedom of creationism. Judging will be done based on quality and completeness. If we get too specific we'd get submissions that would just stick to the requirements instead of going a step further. ;) That's part of the reason we were rather vague in the descriptions.

I figured that would be the answer, but I thought some minimal guidelines might be useful. For example, minimum fucntionality necessary to be considered.

However, I think you could answer the question about whether somebody would be entered twice if they submit two MODs that answer one of the requirements.

Ah yes...sorry. You mean if they were to split up each requirement to different MODs? No. The MOD should at least have the requirements listed and no the author can't just create a "Short Links" and then a "Short Links+" that adds a UCP module or something. We have to at least keep SOME sense and order in all of this.

Just so nobody is caught by surprise when it happens, 3.1 will be due out at the end of this year or the following year. At that time these MODs may or may not work with the new plug-in-style architecture of that new version. That's just an FYI for those planning on participating. This shouldn't really mean a whole lot with regards to this competition but it's more of a pre-emptive warning.

I have added the above note to the announcement as well.
