What does phpBB staff use to program?

Post by phpBuilderBob » Fri Jul 02, 2010 3:34 am

Just a question to the phpBB programers, what do you use to script this forum? I've seen many php scripting programs, and im just wondering what you all use. :D

If you're asking about text-editors, some of us use Notepad++. It's simple and yet handles the important stuff. Also open source.

Paper and pen,
then scan / OCR and run it.

Works great, except syntax highlighting. It depends time of the day and if there are any clouds blocking the sunlight. :)

gedit, the default text editor that comes with Gnome. Has pretty good syntax highlighting, although it's easily confused by regular expressions.

Does Notpad++ have in-code debug? (without having to run the script to see if it has a problem?)

When I'm MOD developing, I use TextWrangler. Yeah I know, Mac OS X :)

On Windows, I primarily use a combination between Netbeans for full projects and sites, and Notepad++ for smaller, everyday file edits.

No, but I see this as a plus and such things are quite annoying IMO. Say you're writing a multi-line string for a query. The thing will be marking every line as an error until you add a semicolon at the end. That's really really distracting.

It will, however, gray out things when you start a string, so if you don't escape something properly or forget to close the string, you'll clearly see that based on the colors. Likewise, when you click of a brace or parenthesis, it will show you its complement. Assuming you're properly spacing your code according to phpBB guidelines, there two features will prevent the vast majority of parse errors.

phpEd, one of the few editors I've found that supports projects, doesn't take forever to load, and doesn't do some really stupid things. Only thing that sucks is their usability is horrid, you pretty much need to use the help page to configure it correctly as there is little explanation on the configuration pages.
