There was someone doing a bunch of requests at the same time for a while. Should be fixed now, and the site should be better.

came here a little while ago and it took close to 5 minutes for the site to load. i just opened other tabs to surf other sites while waiting. so there's still something going on somewhere ;)

i also downloaded almost 3gb worth of site backups so i know it wasn't my connection lol

I like how the phpBB website is simple and lacks the usual nonsense that infects many sites

edit reason: spelling mistake fixed

I've been on sites where an adbot would spam their ads constantly every few seconds in various topics until a moderator or administrator would log in and nuke them. Thankfully, I haven't seen that here, thanks probably to the Moderation Queue. Many sites disable that feature for some reason. Glad this one hasn't.

We see those all the time. With the moderation queue, we catch most of them before the regular users would.

Well at least you guys are not powerless when you have an unfiltered view of that crap. I hate seeing that crap and being powerless to fix it.

Yes. We just now got rid of a spam reply on this very topic. Nobody sees it, other than our team members.

Don't know what happened, but when I click on JFK Numbers' profile, the site says that "the requested user does not exist." When looking at topics they posted in, there is no indication they've been deleted or anything. Example: viewtopic.php?p=15556596#p15556596
Their account looks intact, despite getting the error message when I click on the profile.

That's normal when deleting users but retaining posts (I also do that but move the posts).
If a user is deleted then the username can be reused unless it's added to the list of forbidden names.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I recall deleting users on a phpBB board, and their username normally turns black and becomes unclickable. They also don't usually retain the assigned user rank either.

hmm?, you're right about that
Now I remember, I don't delete them but put them in a special group.

Understood, thanks. I only asked because I thought there was a problem with the site.
