Re: phpBB.com Website Feedback

Post by WainPetopia »

Just a suggestion regarding the wording of your software package page (i.e.: https://www.phpbb.com/downloads/3.2/install ), from someone looking at it for the first time.

In the "Install phpBB" tab (the first tab, which has the link to the full install package) it would be handy to note that the full download is also the proper version for most users updating their board from an older version. Currently the description for that tab says "This is the full 3.2.8 package which can be used for new installations." Users like me, who don't have much experience updating their boards, might assume (as I did) that the package on that tab was only for initial installation, not updating. So I started looking at the other tabs and was confused about which I needed.

I've also seen comments in forums that the automatic update version isn't working right. I don't know if that's true or not, but if so the automatic update tab might need a warning note too.

Thanks for all the work you do on this site and software :)

In we_universal, a header image is only displayed in the small preview? Which has always been the case.

I see what the problem is. the headerbar background image is missing from the styles demo version. it is missing regardless of the screen size.

so, the problem seems to be with the responsive code or something. I get the same problem at any screen size I test.
this is what I see:
Movavi ScreenShot 001 - phpBB 3.2.x Styles Demo Board - Index page - www.phpbb.com.jpg
If I remove or rename the dashboard.jpg file then I get the same thing on the downloaded version I installed on my server.

It's an error in how that particular image is referenced as it's assuming that the image file path will always be the same:

Code: Select all

<img class="inventea-dashboard-image" src="{ROOT_PATH}styles/we_universal/theme/images/dashboard.jpg?assets_version={T_ASSETS_VERSION}" alt="forum header image">
It should have been:

Code: Select all

<img class="inventea-dashboard-image" src="{T_THEME_PATH}images/dashboard.jpg?assets_version={T_ASSETS_VERSION}" alt="forum header image">
I'll let the style author know.

Looks like the attempt by the we_universal demo to pull forum_fn.js and ajax.js out of prosilver was having a path issue too; just to make sure they're all swatted at once.

No, they all do that. It has something to do with how INCLUDEJS is calculated by phpBB on this demo setup. We've been looking into it to see if we can track down where this is happening. Just need some more time to dig through the code and do some debugging.

But it looks correct in my local 3.2.7 demo board.

To be more clear: the problem is with the demo setup we have here on phpBB.com which is most definitely not at all like setting up a local demo of a style.

Thanks for the feedback, I would not have guessed that! I will update the style (I was debating whether it was worth making a new release for phpBB v3.2.8, now I know).

It is a very popular style so I hope you keep it updated for each new version. some versions don't require many edits but it is very helpful for users to know that you will keep it updated.

thanks,
robert
