I don't know if this is a big problem, but I do notice that some Newly Registered Users fill out their profiles with commercial information that has nothing to do with phpbb, nor do their sites have phpbb forums or anything phpbb related. It seems to me like some are trying to turn their profiles on this site into advertisements without having to post anything.
We're aware, thanks. We have recently restricted access to the memberlist, member profiles and the Who Is Online list for guests and bots. So these links will no longer be helpful to these users/spambots for link building.

We do try to adapt to the spambots as much as we can and regularly change the CAPTCHA. Yet we've recently discovered that there are videos on the internet that recommend human spammers to register to this board and put their profiles full of spamlinks (which as I said above is kind of useless now), so there's only so much we can do to keep these users out when they're all humans.

I understand, and I apologize if I wasted your time. If you don't mind me asking, why not block Newly Registered Users from editing their profiles as well?

Probably because they can make a couple of real-looking posts, move out of the New Registered Group and later mess around with their posts (and edit their profile).
Last week (or earlier) I noticed a couple of newly registered users who stayed online for an hour VIewing member profile (their last activity, about 2 minutes after registering). So I reported them but the official phpBB AST (Anti Spammer Team ;-)) had already identified them.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

That would be counterproductive. We can often identify a spammer by his spammy profile before he makes his first spam post.

Hi !

I do not know if I am in right topic or not ...
But found this topic related to phpBB.com for feedback , hence posting here.

I recently found that https://www.phpbb.com/about/release/ is no longer working,
previously it used to show EOL states & all ...

Am I missing something ???
was there an announcement done , about it ???

Best regards :+1:

I am fairly sure that I have seen a posting somewhere about removing it - but I cannot remember where or when (I put it down to an age thing!!)

The page has been temporary removed as it contained outdated information. If anything new is known, it will be posted in the announcements forum.

That was introduced in early 2015, read [Discuss] phpBB Release, Security and Support Plan, and not even 1 year the schedule was out of date already. I'm glad it's finally gone, as it was never a help to begin with.

Intentions were good and it does provide transparency. I would agree with you that it’s unfortunate we couldn’t keep to the schedule but I don’t share such a negative view about the concept as you do.

That pretty much summarizes experience: I had it, the deciders didn't. Back then I explained why it was doomed to fail, and intentions/majority won over reasoning. One day you'll be the one discouraging others from taking the proposed step and they'll declare themselves less negative...

Why not providing graphs of previous releases, so everybody can judge himself when the next version might be due?

Nothing to check. It's just not a feature of the Ideas extension.
