Hi,

we've just rolled out a new system for providing language packs for phpBB.

If you have any comments or feedback, send them in.

In case you encounter any bugs, please post them to the Website Bug Tracker.

Well, good news, ok.. I just have a small question: AFAIK it's possible to have just one translation for every language, who is in charge to verify the correct idioma? I mean, are you the Team sure as for an example that the Italian/Korean or blahblah version is correctly translated? How do you do that in case.. thanks.

I admit it would be cool to speak 30+ languages, but unfortunately I am stuck at about four (not including programming languages). However I have a whole community which is able to contribute feedback to individual translations and make sure phpBB is correctly translated to the language they use.

In the past, we have had only minor complaints, mostly about spelling errors and typography, i.e. nothing preventing users from using a language packs. Any errors notice have usually been fixed in a timely and friendly manner.

I don't expect this to change :)

Not all the Communities are strongly active though and you can't be sure of their level of knowledge of their own idiomas themselves. I think.

That's why I'm posting, since I do have the right (yes it is) knowledge of the very Italian language (also technical and Computer related of course) I can say the IT translation is 'spaghetti translation', you got the point?

The options are:

- contact the responsible italian translator or member from the IST if their team is taking care of the translation
- in case the team uses git or another VCS, submit a patch with your proposals
- contact me and give me some examples you think are most noticable

I haven't said all translations are perfect and I will not be able to guarantee that at any point. On the other hand, I have said were able to sort out any issues in the translations, try us :)

I am sorry I will not.. I have a lot to do instead, what surprises me it is that this idioma, since years ago it is always the same because just translated by the same people (1), wich I do not have anything against him of course.. I am just considering the fact that is a hope for us wich have a lot of years of schools to find somehow in the future somebody that will take care of that idioma for phpBB, untill then I will use just British English.

I started translating the wiki once upon a time and I was contacted by them asking me if they could help me out, I said ok (perhaps quite 2 years ago).. did you heard something as an answer or a further reply or a translation there in the Wiki Italian Zone yet?.. /Me no!. LoL. :)

Okay, kein problem, enjoy. ;)

Hello,
I can't find the german language pack at the new database. :!: :?:

Update: It's listed here: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/language_packs-25 but not here: http://www.phpbb.com/languages/

BTW @ Tah Zonemaster and _Vinny_ : Enable Browser Language Detection MOD offers this feature for guests on your board. ;)

That I know. This page was already available to the group of translators. This makes it easier to find the language pack you want ;)

Then how does that help? :? That makes you part of the problem...not the solution  There is no way you can expect the team here to somehow figure out there is a problem with a language pack if none of us speak said language...period. Therefore, since phpBB is supposed to be a Community-driven project anyways, it's up to the community to point out the problems with the language and for the translator to take care of corrections just like ameeck said.

I know David that does not helps anyhow.. but as I already said I am quite busy, if I take care of something I try and do it for the best, I mean all of the whole translation (huge, uh?). In my opinion about the 70% of that translation is 'spaghetti-house'. But how can I go on, carry on if I am alone and I've already got a lot to do with my MODs? There is no Italian people over here and there AFAIK that can join and help me out, you know.

I am sorry, again.

And last but not least, just forgot to say that.. it is not good IMHO to have just one translation. It is better to have more, so that the user could choose from.. in this case if an Italian guy/gal knows that spaghetti stuff is not good could try another one.. got the point? In this case all the Italian people is mandatory to use that, that's not really good, is not knowledge.. IMHO, again.
