Is this required for MOD users who simply use AutoMOD for installs? Or is this for MOD authors only?

I have older versions. Do they need updating?

Thanks.

It's mainly used by MOD authors. You don't need to update your package.

Is there any possibility of replacing some of the ERROR: messages with WARNING: as that is often the case where for example, the update required may have already installed manually or from a previous process...

Most (if not all) messages containing the term 'already exists' indicate the action has already been completed and as such will not cause any problems...

Take a read of http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=2114651. ;)

UMIF File is the install.php (or what ever the name of the file is) file that you run in your browser to install it.

i'm wondering why uMIL uses a global $dbms. I used that by chance in my mod and i got very weird bugs. it took me quite a while to find out that $dbms was the culprit. Maybe there should be a list of reserved globals somewhere ? Or use less globals..

$dbms is one of the phpBB database configuration variables (see config.php), so overwriting that var will indeed cause unexpected behavior.

Or maybe define your MOD's variables with a unique prefix (like SAJ_).... ;)

Which is always a sensible thing to do if you want to prevent conflicts. But not only variables also classnames/function names/etc (potentially use namespaces when building for Ascraeus)

A lot of MODS have the UMIL directory in them, which means that a person
is constantly getting the directory overwritten by a potentially older version,
then having to update the folder again. Is there some way to require MOD authors
to NOT have UMIL in their root directory, and just have it be in the core filesystem?

It would be easier to update the folder every-so-often, rather than having the
current version on your hard drive to keep replacing the MOD's overwrite of the
current version with an older version.
