Is it possible to disable any type of url in phpbb?

Post by nabarun2 »

I want to setup a forum, but I want to prevent people using any type of url's to prevent spamming.
I think BBCODE url can be disallowed. But what if user types in directly the url?

Post Settings:

Set Allow links in posts/private messages: to No.

Shouldn't this be a permission as well as a board-wide setting? There are both board-wide settings and permissions for Attachments, FLASH and BBCode itself, so it seems that URL usage should have a permission, too.

I've seen lots of requests for this feature. Turning URLs off board-wide is far too restrictive; the Web is built on linking, so disabling it entirely seems like a bad idea.

This is not a permission for entering a URL in a post. It is a setting for displaying it in the output.

"Allow" reads like the former. It sounds like the setting should read Display URLs as links in posts/private messages.

Regardless, there could be a permission for the URL BBCode, right? Then, if the Post code converted URLs like http://www.example.com to

Code: Select all

[url]http://www.example.com[/url]

first, that people without permission to use the URL BBCode wouldn't be allowed to post any links. (Signatures would have to be handled, too, obviously, and there should probably be a permission for links in the user profile as well.)

You could use this and set the number of post to such a significantly high number that by then they should either be trusted or banned.

Disallow links before x posts -->> http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/d ... e_x_posts/

Then I would go to the ACP and choose Signature settings[General options -->> Allow use of links in user signatures] from the main tab and set it to "No".

That's a good idea for phpBB 3.0.8. I just think that kind of function should be part of the phpBB core. I know phpBB 3.0.x probably won't have it, but if phpBB 3.1 doesn't, I'll be disappointed.

That's not granular enough. I want "trusted" users to be able to use links wherever they want, but I don't want spammers (which means new users in general for a while) to be able to use them.

Also, that doesn't address the concern about links in your profile. There should be a Can set Website permission on the user permissions Profile tab that hides the Website field in the UCP profile page (and, if necessary, strips any Website entry out if a profile change was submitted by a spambot without actually using the form).
