Great work CyberAlien, this is something we've wanted for a long time and it'll be extremely useful for users looking for a style of their own as well as for style authors to provide a wide range of colors with only a single release. :)

Help needed!

I got quite a lot of reports that download sometimes times out in WebKit browsers (Safari, Chrome). Unfortunately it doesn't happen to me, not on any computer that I tried. It seems to be affecting people randomly.

I've changed algorithms a bit and asking you to test ColorizeIt editor using Chrome or Safari (or both) browsers.

What to do:
1. Go to ColorizeIt, open any style in browser. Try from SMF 2.0 category, they seem to freeze more often than phpBB styles.
2. Change colors a bit, doesn't matter how much as long as at least one color is changed.
3. Click Download button, wait a bit to see what happens.

If after parsing stuff it got to "your file is ready" message, then everything went fine. If it stopped at some point at "connecting to server" or timed out, bug wasn't fixed :( Please post results here or pm me.

Please try several styles, from reports it looks like it affects only some styles and list of those styles is different from user to user. Unfortunately it never happens to me, so I can't debug this bug myself.

Vjacheslav, I can't reproduce this issue in the latest webkit build (r94751) on OS X 10.6.8. Tried various SMF and phpBB styles, the SMF ones however are extremely slow when being parsed and they appear to freeze up once completely parsed but it does continue after a couple of seconds.

Yay, thanks! That means it did freeze for you, but my workaround solved it. :D

when you use the colorizeit thing you do not reinstall phpbb.

what you download from there is just the style/template files.

then you unzip it and upload the included folders/files to your server using ftp.
then you either rename the style you are replacing or change the name of the new one and install it like any other style from the admin panel.

Or you don't rename anything and just upload it over the existing files. That's what I did for a client, and it seemed to be OK even after an update.

New feature is available on ColorizeIt: colorize your own style.

It allows you to colorize your own styles without submitting them to styles database. How does it work:
1. You upload a sample image.
2. Change colors.
3. Upload zip file.
4. ColorizeIt applies your color changes to uploaded zip file and sends you modified zip file.

Important: this function is experimental, there might be bugs.

There are two URL parameters you can use for colorizeit.html: sample and colors.

"Sample" parameter: it is URL of sample image. Example:

Code: Select all

http://www.colorizeit.com/colorizeit.html?sample=http://www.colorizeit.com/images/articles/sample243.gif
"Colors" parameter: default color scheme. You can get color scheme string by testing sample image here: http://www.colorizeit.com/testsample.html Example:

Code: Select all

http://www.colorizeit.com/colorizeit.html?sample=http://www.colorizeit.com/images/articles/sample243.gif&colors=H61d4d7e|H6af2a2a
What are those parameters for? You can link to ColorizeIt editor from your own website and use this for commercial styles. Upload sample image on your website, create color scheme (optional), link to colorizeit.html and your users will be able to colorize your styles.

Enjoy. Please report any problems here or on colorizeit support forum.

Next announcement (will be posted in few weeks): colorizeit script becoming open source in 2012 ;)

Typo on that page you linked to:
It should be be scaled. If important parts of style do not fit on screenshot, move them around, but do not scale it down.
Should be "It should not be" instead of "It should be be".

But great tool! Thanks for all the hard work.
