Oh no, I always dread updates, but they do always end up going through ok...I think! Always a few files that I have to manually edit, especially style.

I just updated 2 heavy modified phpBB boards and updating both went quite smooth.

Board A had 2 conflicting files while board B had 6 or so and even then no real errors when updating. :)

We've improved compatability with PHP 5.4 further and added a warning about the minimum PHP version required to upgrade to phpBB 3.1 to warn users of old PHP installations.

Question: What is that PHP version?

Unless your host haven't updated software for several years, you probably have higher version than required.

Updated smoothly. :)

But a little problem. Under ACP->System->Version Check->Current version: 3.0.10, although in ACP->General Tab->Board Statistics-> Board version: 3.0.11 is showing. 8-)

Probably you forgot to run install/database_update.php

I'm fairly new to phpbb and my board is only a few weeks old. Can you tell me which package I should use? I'm sure I don't want it overwriting my styles as I have several themes based on prosilver and I have modified that slightly. What else is in there that I don't want to be overwritten? Help, I'm so scared. My board is to have its Grand Opening next week!!

Oh, and I'm running PHP 5.3.6

You should use the automatic update package. It will check the updated phpBB files against the files on your forum and will produce a list of conflicts from third party MODifications. At this point, you'll be given a couple of options on how you wish to proceed.

With regard to your styles, you can manually update those yourself using the 3.0.10 -> 3.0.11 code changes package: https://www.phpbb.com/files/release/php ... hanges.zip . The support team will be happy to assist with any issues upgrading. Help for style upgrades can be obtained in the styles support forum. :)

I've just thought, I'm on PHP Version 5.2.16, so I'm unsure whether or not to risk updating or not?

Updating to 3.0.11 is fine (it just gives you a warning that your PHP version won't be compatible with phpBB 3.1 which is not yet released).

However I would recommend you ask your host about php 5.3.2 support as 5.2 is quite out of date now (and will be even more so when 3.1 is released)

Cheers for confirming. 8-)

BTW, when we get those file conflicts, Have I done the right thing in the past? Basically edit them to contain both the updated part while still inc anything which is modified and then upload?
