Any rough idea when 3.1 is out?

Have a fairly large board with 3 million posts and updating seems to take hours.

Sometime in the 21st century. Is that rough enough? :D

Seriously, what does this have to do with phpBB 3.0.11?

Unless your host haven't updated software for several years, you probably have higher version than required.

Version's PHP: 5.2.17.
Can upgrade to 3.0.11?
Please help me.

Please observe our 6 hour bump rule.

There is no problem upgrading to 3.0.11 with PHP 5.2.17.

Per the title of that topic phpBB 3.1 "Ascraeus" to require PHP 5.3.2, so yes you can install 3.0.11 on PHP 5.2

There is only one answer on this question, it's done when its done ;) In all the years I have been here there was never a approx date for a release. But if you look at all the release dates... most of the time are there 6 or 7 months between releases. But don't hold on that it can be different each time

New versions are released periodically when it is decided that enough has been changed since the previous release to warrant a new release. Because all team members (including Developers) are volunteers, we cannot realistically impose a deadline on a release, as doing so would result in a lower quality product.

If I may ask, what is the rush? Unless you have found a bug that needs to be fixed and have reported it, it is unlikely that you'll notice much difference from one version to the next, as 3.0.x releases are only suppose to fix bugs, not introduce new features. New features are added in 3.1.x (and before you ask, there is no release date for that either). For more information about 3.1, visit the area51 development site.
Don't forget to smile today. :)

It has been 3 months since 3.0.11 was released. 3.0.x maintenance releases are made every 6-8 months or so.

I have 1&1 hosting and they are pushing us to upgrade to PHP 5.4.

Is phpBB 3.0.11 compatible with PHP 5.4?

yes, but from what we have seen here about that hosting company, be sure to make complete backups for yourself. that means to do a database backup and check it to make sure it is all there.

the last table should be the zebra table.

also backup all your files using ftp.

luck,
robert

This is an absolute first for me. I started my (first) board a couple of months ago as part of a portal for our local community (a 1-click install of WordPress). So far it's going well, but I'm naturally nervous about updating as I'm not sure what will change. Aside from a Q&A at user registration, user/moderator permission configuration, and one password-protected forum, I've not done anything non-standard. Will an automatic update cause me to have to start again with all of these settings/changes, because if so I'm inclined to leave well alone until I'm forced to change by a more major update downstream? Any advice gratefully received.

The automatic update package was built to handle boards that have MODs installed. If you haven't added any, the steps below will suit you just fine. Note that if you are not using one of the default styles, you will have to find an updated version of your style or update it yourself (style and board versions must match).

*NOTE: Before proceeding backup all files and the database.*
  • Upload all new files from a download of the full version, EXCEPT for config.php, the /images and /files folders.
  • Go to yoursite.com/forumfolder/install/database_update.php
  • Let that run and then delete the install folder.
  • You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts but without any MODs that you might have had installed.
Also, this topic is for discussion. If you need help, please post int he support forum. Thanks!
