Seemed to go ok, although I did have three conflicts related to a MOD (Boardwatch) in the
includes/functions_posting.php file. Had to record the changes, run the update and then manually enter the references to Boardwatch where the conflicts occurred. So far so good.

I do have one problem:
In the ACP, there is a tab called ACP_CAT_MODS. I don't really remember if I ever used it, but when I click on it I get an error:

Cannot find module ./../includes/acp/acp_mods.php

BACKTRACE

FILE: (not given by php)
LINE: (not given by php)
CALL: msg_handler()

FILE: [ROOT]/includes/functions_module.php
LINE: 457
CALL: trigger_error()

FILE: [ROOT]/adm/index.php
LINE: 74
CALL: p_master->load_active()

I looked in previous backups, and can't find any file called ../includes/acp/acp_mods.php .
Any idea what calls this file?

Which usually is not found under the .Mods category in the ACP

As previously stated, this is a file from AutoMOD. Please seek support in support section for it (here).

Thanks, Burgertushie --> t_backoff. I posted the question in the AutoMOD forum. Strange thing is, I used to have AutoMOD installed back in the day, but removed it because it was performing poorly with the installation of some MODs. I uninstalled it about a year ago and switched to manual install of MODs.

which means that there is very little wrong with 3.0.11 to need an update for.

there will be no new features in the 3.0 branch. the only reason for updates to it will be for bug fixes.

I would guess that there apparently are not that many bugs in 3.0.11 so you should be happy.

as long as you are up to date with the latest version , why should you care when the next one comes out?

I'm not sure what this has to do with 3.0.11 being released, but maybe the developers are working on phpBB 3.1 more than 3.0.12.

Either way, whining won't get either more quickly.

Exactly. 3.0 sees very little developer activity, and therefore releases are correspondingly infrequent.

We've improved compatability with PHP 5.4 further and added a warning about the minimum PHP version required to upgrade to 3.1 to warn users of old PHP installations.
Please excuse my probably stupid question, but does that mean that phpBB 3.0.11 does not work with php version 5.5.0?

It should work fine. There were minor issues with 5.4 because of some very old code that relied on stuff obsoleted by 5.4, as far as I know there aren't any similar issues with 5.5
