moving to phpBB

Post by sadulsepp » Thu Dec 13, 2012 9:05 am

Hello.
I'm planning to move my current forum to some new platform.
One considered is phpBB.

I have few questions before making the decision:
As my forum is customer feedback type I need to have tags in the topics, each post (not mandatory). Default tags in certain subforums.
Also I would like to have tags to be rated.
e.g.
Tag1: yes/no: value1
Tag2: yes/no: valueX

Also I need in the OP or anywhere logical place average tag rating.

Also need search based on tags.
e.g.
Search Tag1:yes, Tag4:yes, Tag7:no

I understand this is heavy custom development. Therefore I have question if this is possible in phpBB?
I'm opened for discussion and questions. Will explain gladly.

Hello,

This is not possible with a default installation of phpBB. However, you can install a MOD that will add the functionality. Check out Quick Title Addition. Although it doesn't have a rating system, it looks like it handles the rest of your request.

assuming I know what you mean by "tags" It sounds to me like you want something like a blog software.

however, since phpbb is open source you can certainly create anything you want using the phpbb code.

Currently running successfully forum with 82000+ posts, 25000+ users (1000+ active daily).
Forum format is something that would like to keep.

Then again, as 99% of the contents is customer feedback then need some tools to rate services (1500+ different service providers). Each of them offers ~5 different categories I would like to rate/search/collect statistics.

If there are nay good ideas how to do this...
Polls would be grate, then again - users should be able to change their mind after 2nd visit etc.

What would be good options to rate:
1. if fixed services are provided;
2. what rate will be given to services provided
3. get summary or average rate to services provided?

Thank you for the infomation. This actually looks like something that could be used.
As I'm pretty new to phpBB and English is just a third language of mine, I hope you don't mind few questions.

Couldn't understood if there can be several attributes added to one topic?
Lets say if I can mark those attributes with letters A, O, V, H, M, ...
Can I add A, O, M to one topic?
Can I use search - find topics with attributes A, M?

I assume that move the attributes after the topic name could be easy.

Editing attributes - was mentioned to be flexible. Can I put a limit, that users with less then x number of posts can not use attributes? Users less then x+y posts can not remove attributes?

You should probably ask those questions in the mod support area

As Esti and Suomi are close related (if my memory serves me right) maybe you can also get some more help on the http://www.phpbbsuomi.com/ site :) .

Esti and Suomi are not close related in any other sense than that they are close geographically. And both are members of EU.
Need a mod/extension created/installed, other custom-coded solution or a server admin? https://tumba25.net

Interesting because as far as I experienced, Estonians usually understand Finnish very good plus they belong to the same language family. But then again I might have been just lucky in Tallinn

Unfortunately I don't speak Finnish. Languages though are close and those lived in Tallinn (capital) do speak Finnish. Most of them fluently.
But this is not a language theme, thank you for your support anyway.
