You'd also need a grossly incompetent business-management staff.

Considering the changes since their fork from SMF, they're pretty fast guys.

Of course not. This has always been a project run by volunteers, which is one of the main reasons the software remains free and open sourced. phpBB ltd. was not established to hire anyone.

Just because there are no FTEs, that doesn't mean there isn't any money coming in and going out.

Server maintenance/hosting, pay for events, donations to the supporting organizations that lend us their services, etc. I'm surprised that you thought anyone here got paid given the fact that you've been registered here for over 11 years and not once have we given any indications that we do this. :?

I remember having read about full-time phpBB stylers though.

During the years I've been active and less active  here I never cared about the company behind phpBB because it never was a related topic to anything technically. phpBB has grown a bit though, so I wasn't sure if there was no change since I had registered here.

(As if I had been here every day or week. ;))

phpBB has had no negatives so far for me. The phpBB community has helped with all the things I've needed help with.

One thing I'm curious about is. Is there any security problems with any of the forums?

If you are referring to phpBB then, as far as I am aware, there are no known security issues at this time. If, on the other hand, you are referring to other forum software then you would need to ask that of them.

I tried both, and both are currently installed in my server at this moment.

+ : pros
- : cons

mybb
+default theme looks good
-but not responsive
+inbuilt theme editor
+very easy permission system
+apparently more updated plugins
+a lot of people recommended it as I found in many sites/discussions boards, even in reddit
+easy to install and configure with nginx
+admin panel is organized well
+apparently there are more settings in admin panel
-less premium looking themes for free
-even premium themes do not that premium looking
-plugin page is not that organized, hard to find plugins based on the version of the mybb

phpbb
-default theme doesn't look modern
+but very responsive
+search engine optimized without any manual configuration.
-no native reputation system
-smilies look outdated
-admin panel looks old ,unorganized, and have less settings
+more premium looking themes
+premium looking themes look really good
-less plugins
-no inbuilt style editor
+plugin page is very organized, easy to find latest plugins and for the latest phpbb
