Personal sidenote:
As far as statements like
are concerned, most importantly since this seems to be the kind of "style" of discussion and arguing that has become more widespread and common during the last few years:
"People" in this case (and in many others ...) doesn't include neither me nor my users for example, so please stop using "arguments" like this.
It definitly doesn't help carrying your case.
True, this is what YOU want, but this is nothing that folks like me or my users want - for them this would be more than annoying ... and consequently wipe my board.
Whether those users or admins are in the overall majority or not may be questionable but is completely irrelevant the moment a decission (any decision!) has a binding effect for all. In order to use your ductus: Point.
(If I should really need to explain why, well ... wouldn't that proove my case even further? )
Flexibility (and in a good part usability as well), again: IMHO, is a case of providing the ability to choose between options.
There still are many of us who see things the same way Mick does - including me and my users.
The way you see things and argue may be right in your own perspective - but you not only don't cover us: the way you actually do it could be seen as offensive by those who disagree with your personal point of view. You exclude us from being relevant enough to waste any thoughts on our interests ...
When reading post (or "arguments") like yours I may allow myself to have doubts that those to come up in this style can really see (or do at least want to see ...) the whole picture and/or more than their own side only ...
(btw: this would be "it's 2017" style as well - thanks to FB etc. ...)
If communication and discussion using real arguments while taking into consideration the interests/points of view of all those effected is no longer considered "to be 2017" ... well, than I'm oldfashioned.
So what!
