3.1 is a new branch. 3.0 won't show as a update. But 3.0.13 willbe displayed as new version in 3.0.

But absolutely 3.1.2 is the latest version of phpBB 3.

Now tell me how can I update when I get this error when clicking on the download area both as a guest and when I'm logged in.
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /downloads/ on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache Server at http://www.phpbb.com Port 443
If that's important I'm using Pale Moon and I could download phpBB 3.1.1 when it came out.
The page works here again in both chrome, firefox and IE, so I guess it was a temporary glitch.
You're correct it was just a temporary glitch. Anyway, it's working now.

Thank you robert for taking time to reply... I just want to understand the process in order to, hopefully, avoid issues with future updates.
When you say:
Lumpy Burgertushie wrote:the process will create edited files... it will do the download and upload for you.
During the automatic update process, are files downloaded to my local machine prior to being uploaded back to the server? or is all the work done on the server (in memory/temp disk storage) and the reason the ftp username/password are needed is for the permissions to write the edited files to their required locations?

Please excuse me if I seem to be getting too anal retentive about this, but anytime I have to give username/password information (especially to an automated process) I like to know if it is being stored anywhere, i.e., a plain text file... Also, if any work is being done by the process that is local to my machine, could local temp storage, virus software, etc., be a factor in various update issues, i.e., timing issues (delays) caused by virus scanning?

Thank you again, and thanks to the phpBB Community...

most people dont' use that function anyway because it will only work on some servers.

don't choose the ftp method to begin with, choose the download method and it will not ask you for ftp access info.

that is what I was describing above. if you choose download, it will create the edited files for you, you can then download them to your computer in a zip file. once on your computer, you unzip the file and using your normal ftp program on your computer, you would upload all the contents of that zip file back to the server.

there will be files and folders and they will overwrite the existing ones with the newly edited updated ones which is what you want to happen.

once that is all done, you go to yourdomain.com/yourphpbb/install/database_update.php in your browser.
when that function is complete you go back and delete the folder named install from your ftp.

Thanks again robert.
I was just trying to avoid having to copy the files to their locations manually... just lazy

using ftp, you drag and drop them all at once to the right side of the ftp window where the other files/folders are.

that way you get them all with no errors. should only take a couple of minutes to do it all.

Hello, I just updated my forum from 3.0.11, and I lost the style applied to my forum.

When I go in the ACP, I can't see the style although i re-uploaded it to my server through FTP. Do you have any idea of how to make my old style available ?

Styles and MODs from 3.0 are not compatible with 3.1

I tried to update from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2. Installed the new files as determined by the updater. Made a backup.
Ran the install.
All posts etc gone. Back to a virgin forum.
Reinstalled the backup and the forum is fine.
However, when I go to the admin panel I get a plain text page, without all the tabs and buttons to administer the forum.

Looks like this:

Why are extensions out of date?

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... 865603b04b

And this extension Board Announcements does not seem to work on my 3.1.2.

Thank you.

Because their updates haven't been approved yet. Once they are the associated release topics will be updated. Same goes for Board Announcements.

You can go straight from 3.0.12 to 3.1.2 by following the upgrade instructions

Set prosilver as the default style on your existing forum

Delete all files EXCEPT for the following:
The config.php file
The images/ directory
The files/ directory
The store/ directory
Upload the contents of the 3.1.x Full Package into your forum's directory. Make sure the root level .htaccess file is included in the upload.
Browse to install/database_update.php
Delete the install/ directory

Make a backup copy of all your existing files and database first, just incase it goes wrong
