[UnSolved] Problems with SEO

Post by Kelvin elenwo »

This seo thing, am really embarrassed that even phpbb developers say it doesn't matter, let me ask this: How many times have you searched on a search engine and see your site indexed, i'm not talking about phpbb related contents found on your site, but other contents.
I searched to see how my site displays on Google, but, see the embarrassing thing I saw.

I don't think we are talking about seo URLs as the solution only.

I cannot see what is "embarrassing" about the search item that you used coming out top in the search results - or am I missing something?

My point is
1. Without you searching with the full site name, it won't be indexed.
2. There is supposed to be some sort of topic message preview, I mean, some of the contents of a message in the particular topic that was indexed.
3. when shown on Google search engine, a topic that was indexed still shows things like. "softforums-View topic-Topic Title" .

I suggest that that is the main problem behind phpbb sites not indexed. Because if we search for "my home". And a phpbb sites title is "site-view topic-my home" and a WordPress site only has "my home" as title , the WordPress would be indexed because the phpbb site's title doesn't match what was searched.

not sure where you get the idea that phpbb sites are not indexed.

your experiment is not very logical.

every post on this site is indexed within hours and sometimes within minutes.

if you only search for the domain name that is what you will get.

it also depends on how you have your board setup etc.

also, nobody here has ever said that SEO is not important.

the only thing that is said is that friendly urls are not very important and don't really make enough difference to be worth the trouble they cause.

if you want better SEO then have good , up to date content that is relevant to your subject matter.
do not have a general purpose board.
do some real keyword research on your subject matter and make relevant changes to the name of your site,
the titles of your categories/forums/posts.

friendly urls will not really help your SEO

that is all that has been repeatedly stated in discussions here about SEO.

I don't know why people can read those discussions here and come away with the idea that we think SEO is not important.

that extension, although not really neccessary, will help with SEO a lot more than "friendly urls" would.

however, I do not agree that it should be in the core. not everybody cares about SEO for their boards. I would be willing to bet that the majority of boards have no real use for SEO ( even if the owners think they do ) .

the main reason for worrying about SEO is if you are trying to sell something on your board.
of course, the best way to sell things is to get as many visitors as possible but, the best way to sell things online is not with a bulletin board to begin with.

nothing needs to be in the core other than core code for a bulletin board.

all the rest should be extensions as it already is.

remember, this is just my opinion just as your post is just your opinion.

and you know what opinions are like..... ;)

Here is a demonstration:
google-seo.png
Here is your topic listed first on a google search page, without typing in the whole URL to get to it.

That's actually what I wanted.
To make my site indexed on Google search without typing the full url.

There is no extension needed. This board is indexed just fine without extensions, as my image demonstrates.

Why I say phpbb.com is very different without extension is because I believe that the developers of this board can make changes to the files without having to use someone's extension.

The point is that they did not. Whatever html code that search engines see here is the same code that is in the standard phpBB package.
