That's not completely true.
First of all phpbb.com uses more html header than the standard package:
<meta name="application-name" content="phpBB" />
<meta name="msapplication-tooltip" content="phpBB &bull; Free and Open Source Forum Software" />
<meta name="msapplication-starturl" content="/" />
<meta name="msapplication-window" content="width=1024;height=768" />
<meta name="msapplication-task" content="name=Home; action-uri=/; icon-uri=favicon.ico" />
<meta name="msapplication-task" content="name=Community; action-uri=/community/; icon-uri=favicon.ico" />
<meta name="msapplication-task" content="name=Blog; action-uri=http://blog.phpbb.com/; icon-uri=favicon.ico" />
<meta name="msapplication-task" content="name=Customise; action-uri=/customise/; icon-uri=favicon.ico" />
<meta name="msapplication-task" content="name=Area51; action-uri=http://area51.phpbb.com/; icon-uri=favicon.ico" />
Secondly phpBB uses the name of the forum at the start of the title:
phpBB &bull; [UnSolved] Problems with SEO - Page 2
In the default package it's at the end of the title, also in the default package - is used instead of a bullet in the title.

I'm not sure about the RSS feeds, does that come standard with phpBB? I don't see em on my sites?
<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Feed - phpBB.com" href="feed.php" /> <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Feed - News" href="feed.php?mode=news" />
<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Feed - All forums" href="feed.php?mode=forums" /> <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Feed - Forum - phpBB Discussion" href="feed.php?f=64" /> <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Feed - Topic - [UnSolved] Problems with SEO" href="feed.php?f=64&t=2331336" />

phpBB comes with RSS feeds and has for 6 or 7 years.

[snip]
While true that these aren't part of standard prosilver, these are present for "pinning" web sites to the task bar in Windows 7 & 8 (not sure about 10), and they have nothing to do with search, indeed they are not understood by Google.

The name of the site not being the first thing in the <title> tag was new in 3.1 that was not moved into the phpBB.com template - ironically it is believed that the new (i.e. default) titles are more friendly

One thing I get to understand is phpbb.com title in posts, like phpbb•topic title , is more seo friendly than mysite-View topic-topic title .

Prove me wrong.

There is nothing to prove here. The format you describe is what was used in phpBB 3.0.x. In phpBB 3.1.x the format does no longer contain info like "View topic" but only the site name and the topic's title like on phpbb.com.

So then your problem is your style. The standard phpBB 3.1.x Prosilver puts the topic and forum titles first.

Hi guys. I decided to ask in this thread similar question.
I want to start a forum. And plans to use phpBB.
But I wonder how SEO friendly this CMS is?
Does anyone have problems with targeted promotion in the search results?

phpbb is not a CMS it is a bulletin board program.

phpbb is perfectly SEO friendly out of the box.

there are a couple of changes you could make to help with things like descriptions and forum titles etc. but basically google has no problem indexing and displayin every single page that phpbb creates. do NOT listen to anyone that tells you otherwise because they are simply wrong.
Does anyone have problems with targeted promotion in the search results?
if you could explain exactly that that means in the way of marketing I could maybe give you a more detailed answer, however, you can market using phpbb just like you can any other site. it is all about content and keywords related to that content.
if your board has content that is relevant to your subject matter then it will already have keywords relevant to that subject matter.

therefore, it will show up in the serps as it should just like any other type of website/webpage.

so, bottom line, make your website ( phpbb or otherwise ) for your human customers and if you do a good job of that, SEO will take care of itself.

Hi Robert, thank you for your reply.
I Just want to install phpbb forum for my website.
But I heard that some bulletin board engines are ranked differently in the SERP.
Therefore, I decided to know your opinion directly here.

if that is true ( which I have my doubts about ) then phpbb will rank right up there at the top for being SEO friendly. as has been said repeatedly, phpbb boards are indexed just fine and depending on your content and how many links you have in and out to other content rich sites, posts can be indexed immediately in many cases.

If you wish to install a bulletin board, pick one that fits the requirements for being a bulletin board/discussion board, don't worry about SEO, that is not one of the requirements for a good bulletin board.
