I've come across a strange problem. Is it 3.2.0 or FireFox I don't know.

Anyway, the problem.

I have a 3.2.0 on the same hosting package as my other fora in its own subdomain. All of my 3.1.x fora load in <2 seconds, but the 3.2.0 takes 8-10 seconds on first access, but then navigating the forum is upto the same speed as the 3.1.x's

Starting FF with add-ons disabled and 3.2.0 loads in <2 seconds, but using FF as usual but with all ext and plugins disabled and its back to 8-10 seconds again.

IE has no such problem, but then I don't use it unless I have to. Its really puzzling me. Any ideas?

So then that begs the question of what add-ons do you have installed in FF?

Extensions

Plugins

BUT if I disable everything it still takes 8-10 seconds on first load. Only if I browse with Add-ons disabled (safe mode) will it load in <2 seconds.

Also, enabled extensions on the forum make no difference (ie, vanilla 3.2.0 has no effect on load time)

Tried several times, it loads in 1.3 - 1.7 seconds.

More than half of it spent on downloading files from cse.google.com, which is injected by script tag in footer. Problem is in custom search engine code, not phpBB.

Thanks for that both. It looks like it must be something screwy in my browser because I have tried it with Google Search disabled, and its made no difference to my loading times.

BUT Its the same code as in my 3.1.x extension, and that loads in <2 seconds.

I'm going to have a play with FF and see if I can see where the problem lies

I have just saved my FF bookmarks etc, done a full refresh on FF, replaced bookmarks etc, and its loading as it should, ie <2 seconds

I have no idea why it was happening, or why it only effected my 3.2.0 forum, but there it is.

Thanks for your help

OK, after much messing about I have found what was causing the problem.

I used to have a Flash Downloader installed in the browser, but had disabled and removed it, except I hadn't. There seems to be remnants of the downloader that was causing the problem. Refreshing FF back to a new install, then replacing the current extensions and everything works perfectly.

Adding then removing any of the flash downloaders I have tried results in the slow loading of the 3.2.0 forum, but not any of the 3.1.x fora.

Really strange Image

Hi,

can someone reproduce the following?
I experience a change in the behavior of the url-tag in 3.2.

In a 3.0. board the bbcode

Code: Select all

[url]www.example.com[/url]
would result in http://www.example.com beeing displayed. When editing the post it would show an changed url

Code: Select all

[url]http://www.example.com[/url]
. The same holds true for www.example.com (without URL-tag) -> http is added.

in 3.1 its not added, but works all.
---

In a 3.2. board (with URL-rewriting enabled) the following bbcode

Code: Select all

[url]www.example.com[/url]
would result in http://board.url.tld/www.example.com beeing displayed and linked - which is an invalid link. However, the post itself is not changed and hence still consists of

Code: Select all

[url]www.example.com[/url]
and the same holds true for www.example.com (without URL-tag) -> http is not added.

Why did it change and how can I prevent such invalid links?

Can you explain this?
URL rewriting is no option in default phpBB and AFAIK no option in 3.2 either. I guess you have an extension installed? Is that extension tested on 3.2?

The text formatting that handles BBcodes is changed for 3.2 though, so that might be the cause.
