I think that the blog should mention that other applications are available as well as WAMP - XAMPP, for example.

Nice post.

I would add to this, that instead of using phpMyAdmin, one should invest a little time to install a tool like MySQL Workbench. Also free and much more powerful (and a LOT quicker in use) than phpMyAdmin.

Yeah, I use MAMP. Basically to be sure I have the same setup on Mac as on Windows, but in the end these tools result in pretty much the same for the average Joe IMO.

Instead of phpMyAdmin, I use Adminer. Fine tool.

+1 for Adminer.

By the way:
Technically it is a paid product, but you can download and use it for free if you can put up with periodic reminders to buy the program.
So the phpBB team advises to violate software licenses? I guess I'll quote you on that later.

Oh? Which software license? The section here that mentions there is no time limit for evaluation? Or maybe this post by one of the guys on the Sublime team stating that the unlimited evaluation is on purpose? I'd quote you from the official license but there isn't an actual license included with Sublime when it is installed. ;)

a license must be purchased for continued use
Source.

You can be picky here and notice that "continued use" is not defined in numbers, but I'm actually sure that not even planning to buy a license is an outright violation of this term.

Technically, you can download most "premium" phpBB themes and add-ons for free too. It's just that you really shouldn't.

For completeness:
a license must be purchased for continued use. There is currently no enforced time limit for the evaluation.
Source.

Either way this doesn't really constitute a license. Sublime is really just a type of shareware.

Actually if you try to get a "premium" theme from envato you can't just download it without paying for it.

Except that there is a license agreement stating that e.g. businesses must not evaluate Sublime Text eternally.

I probably can, if not from the envato website. Is there a mandatory license agreement which states otherwise?

Our users here aren't "businesses"? Generally speaking they're all hobbyists which is totally not the same thing. And thanks for finding their EULA which, I might add, does not mention any limit on use for a non-business end user. Plus that section you quoted has to do with a purchased license anyways, which is basically a "don't share your purchased license" statement.

From there:
Did you know that when you purchase an item from one of our marketplaces, you're actually purchasing a license to use that item?
So what if I download an item from elsewhere?

I'm pretty sure that phpBB Ltd. is, technically, a business, so any of its employees are here as business users. Also we were just talking about businesses making money with creating phpBB themes... not all phpBB users are "businesses" but the blog post makes no difference concerning Sublime Text licensing - and that is just wrong as already pointed out.

Business end users are kindly ignored to keep you from updating that blog post? I see.

I'm pretty sure that the blog post isn't intended for any businesses. They should know what a text editor or an IDE is, as well as how to run a local server.
