Nice one, but I inspected the demo, and do not see any META tags in the header of that phpBB site demo they got with it running. Just looks like it only creates friendly URLs, and that's just a whole other conversation.
Spoiler Alert: I've been working on an extension for a bit, take a peek on my live dev environment: https://phpbb.thetopfew.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2
That looks interesting, but it depends on the user who's making the post, correct?
Yes and no, handing over the power of meta descriptions is only allowed to those who have the permissions to customize topic descriptions. The admin may set these permissions if he/she don't want authors customizing their own, then of course it defaults to an auto-description drawn from the first 160chars of the first post.
The extension is already running smoothly on my live site, and the test site. It replaces my old hardedits I had done back in Jan 2017 to the phpBB core files that gave me the same result, but was much easier to do.. lol. So far in the extension, I've gotten hyperlinks, installed bbcodes, and media to parse out of the auto-description generator, but not yet smileys.
If any of this interests you, I should have it finished this year, sometime after my WoP game patch is done. It will only be available on thetopfew.com
