Best way to see how much traffic phpbb forum will handle?

Post by juliesdroidsync » Fri Sep 01, 2017 12:16 am

We have a new phpbb 3.2 forum on a shared hosting service with hostgator.
It probably won't be long before we need to move from a shared hosting service to something more robust, but I'd like to get some rough idea how many users can be navigating / posting on the site before it starts bogging down...
Will it be 25 simultaneous users or 2500? Just some idea would be great. (and we are on a shoestring budget!)
I did a chat session with Hostgator tonight, and asked them the same thing, as I thought they'd be the best place to start. Their support rep's answer was, "Sorry, we don't support that, so we have no suggestions for you."
:-\
Anyway, ideas appreciated! Thank you for your time.

Every host is different. We have no way to gage how many users your plan would handle.

You might be able to get a feel for the load if you enable some form of web stats on your board

If you want to benchmark, there area LoadImpact and Blitz.io to synthetically test your forum hosts.

But it doesn't really represent on your member activity, but the reader (not logged in/guest) counts.

Closer to 25 than 2,5000.

You'll never get a straight answer from them. It's too hard to predict and they don't want you coming after them if they throw out a number that is too optimistic.

20, 30 and 50 users at the same time should not be a big issue if you pick a decent host.
If you will have 2500 users on the forum, you will have the budget.
