Where can I host phpBB for free?

Post by myallmert »

Hello,
I'm looking for a site which I can install and host phpBB forum for free (need very small space).
I tried to use 000webhost (hostinger) but I'm having problem with it,
Do you know any other site which is recommended to host phpBB?

We cannot really recommend a host, but we do recommend that you visit WebHostingTalk. We highly recommend that you do not use a free host. Most of them have issues and limitations. However, if you must use a free host FreeHostingTalk can assist you in locating one.

Free hosts are usually about as good as the cost suggests (ie not very)

Hosting can be had very cheaply these days. Have a look in The Teams signatures and websites as some of us have links to our hosting company.

With a quick search I found at least 5 offering free hosting with at least 10 GB dataspace, 100 GB traffic, PHP, MySQL etc..
Since it's free you could always try them out (which you would have to do with any suggestion from here anyway). You can't lose anything with trying.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Can you tell me here or in private the sites please?

You may want to use our mighty friend BigG: https://cloud.google.com/ -> the first year is free. ;)
I didn't try it yet, though.

Make sure you can get database backups without fee, or you may lose your board.
I can stop all your spam. I can upgrade or update your Board. PM or email me. (Paid support)

Do any of the good hosts offer any kind of free trial?
I need to persuade some people of the merits of the platform, and the best way to do that is probably to show them.

Some do, some don't.
Try some, as your board still has to start and it will give you a head start once you decide which kind of hosting package you'll want (or need)

you are making this way to hard.
free hosts are normally not a good idea. they tend to disappear over night and you lose your board.

if you are just going to install a board to show to a customer, install it on your computer.
or, go ahead and just pick any free host that has php and mysql and do your demo for your customer.

or, go ahead and get a paid host with a domain name and go for it.
you can get decent hosting and a domain name for less than $50 USD a year.

go here:
https://webhostingtalk.com and pick one.

I would add that many hosts have something like a 30 day money back guarantee so you can sign up and then cancel.

There used to be some very good free hosts. I say "Free", clearly they were paid for by the advertising. I wonder why that model doesn't work any more.

I think you have unjustified confidence in my abilities...

Yes, that's an obvious answer, but it's clearly better to start with a host we can stick with.

That may be a sensible option.
