What kind of smilies do you use at your phpBB board?

Post by potku »

I hope this is the correct forum for this discussion. :)

The standard phpBB smilies are pretty nice. In the Extension Database there doesn't seem to be too many new smiley packs. Do you guys use smilies other than the standard phpBB ones, and if so, where did you find them? :)

none, I rarely use a smilie in a post. I would probably not notice if there were no smilies available here or on any other board.

Heh, maybe that's a trend now since there really aren't very many new (and modern) smiley packs in the EXT database. Or maybe people are satisfied with the phpBB standard smilies, which are pretty nice.

I prefer Skype smileys. I found one pack here: https://github.com/julianlam/nodebb-plugin-emoji-skype

What I think, though, is that the ability to insert emojis has rendered smilie packs virtually useless. 🤗

I am just curious in general, and I do wonder why there aren't too many new smilie packs in the EXT DB. My money is on emojis.

I have a problem with emojis in as much as they render differently depending on what platforms are in use. I much prefer .gifs because at least you know what they will look like at the other end. I’m with a Robert though, I very rarely use smilies personally.

I like the default phpBB smilies, they're quite authentic and I've gotten used to them. Especially this one. :ugeek:

Dope. I'm a fan of the default phpBB smilies but never understood the naming and purpose of some of them. Was 'Mr Green' an inside joke or something when it came out? And what is this one for?

I was told many years ago it was somebody bending for the soap in the bathtub.

well , that might get them lit up for sure depending on where they were at the time and who might be in the shower with them.
