PHPbb 3.2 doesnot accept paragraphs

Post by ericnyamu1 »

Hey,

phppbb is a very nice software with one problem.i doesnot allow text to be paragraphed.when i format a block of text with paragraphs i.e the first line of text in the block of text is some inches away from the left margin like how a normal paragraph should be when i publish the articles phpbb software changes the paragraphed text into spaced blocks of text.that isnot how a paragraph is in normal english.look at the below photo.You can do this experiment yourself try writing post with paragraphs then hit submit and see if the final post will still have paragraphs on it.i hope this bug will be rectified

The phpBB text editor is not a word processor (and definitely not WYSIWYG) BBCodes are used for layout and punctuation but, having said that, I don’t see any issues with your paragraphs, they look fine to me.

Are you talking about indents?

Using a blank line to indicate the start of a paragraph, as opposed to indenting the first line, has been normal business practice for many years - you only need one or the other.

Are you talking about text-indent? If so, you could just apply that to your stylesheet in the desired places.

Most of the time however it's not used on screen texts, just on printed texts AFAIK.

No indents is called "Full block". It has been the standard in business writing for at least 45 years.

PhpBB is not changing anything. Your web browser ignores white-space in HTML. Your indents are white-space, so they are ignored.

Likewise you can't have multiple spaces - interpreted in HTML they only render as one, which has been practiced since HTML was released in 1993. Type the following and preview how it will be rendered:

Code: Select all

text           with         multiple       spaces
Now do the same by preceding said text with [code] and appending [/code] at the end. This is called unfolded, and it is the exception, not the default.

Do you mean with an indented first line? Otherwise I can’t see what’s wrong with the example you posted earlier.

No clue. Visiting a dozen news websites I do not see any indented paragraphs.

I don't think the OP cares what other sites look like; he just wants indented paragraphs on his site. :)

you need a bbcode.
create a custom bbcode.

bbcode: [indent][/indent]
html replacement: <span style="margin-left: 30px;"></span>

useage: click the indent bbcode button and then move your cursor out of the bbcode and start typing.

Or simply do as I wrote earlier and let CSS handle this. Open up your theme's content.css and look for

Code: Select all

.postbody .content {
And add below:

Code: Select all

    text-indent: 50px;
That handles it for everyone writing posts on your board.
