The state of Flash

Post by John connor » Sun Sep 02, 2018 4:52 am

With Flash going the way of the dodo bird in place of HTML5, I was wondering if phpBB will ever ditch the flash capability in phpBB?

Another question: I have several flash-based old Atari games on my board, and I would like to convert them to HTML5. Does anyone know of a tool or good online service that will convert swf to HTML5?

TIA! :)

I’m guessing but I would imagine once flash becomes unusable for whatever reason it will be removed. It looks like it’s on its way out anyway:
Internet search wrote:Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari have all been blocking Flash over the past year, but Adobe is now planning to remove support for it fully by the end of 2020. ... HTML5 standards have been implemented across all modern web browsers, and the need for Flash just isn't there anymore.25 Jul 2017
There’s all sorts of information available by a Google search on converting including executables and on line convertors. You can also look at the developers area of google.com.

to be correct:
There is no way to convert swf files to html5.
If you can get the original base files (before they were converted to Flash) it may be possible to recode them.

There are sites advertising convertors, are you saying none of them work?

I have done research on this and you in fact need to disassemble the SWF file or have it's source to convert it to HTML5. I saw how I could do this, but it's a giant PITA so I won't even bother. I'll just delete the page that holds the Flash games one day. Perhaps I'll find their HTML5 counterparts on the Internet and share those links instead.
