Backup and Clone phpBB 3.1 to another folder and database

Post by michealgrzz » Sun Sep 09, 2018 5:58 pm

Can I copy my well populated forum running 3.1.10 onto another forum on my root folder and copy my database and upload it to another mysql database ? I want to run both at the same time and experiment with the latter.

Yes you can do that, you would need to edit config.php to point to the test database. You may have to edit the script path on the test version. ACP >> Server Settings

You can also do this on your local computer using XAMPP. https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html

Once you have XAMPP running and files and database in place you can access it at http://localhost/ If you are using Windows open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts. Add these lines and save the file.

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 yourdomain.com
127.0.0.1 www.yourdomain.com
Now when you you go to yourdomain.com it will load the local version. Minimally You will have to clear the browser cache to get this to work. Comment out the entries to return to viewing the live version.

Code: Select all

#127.0.0.1 yourdomain.com
#127.0.0.1 www.yourdomain.com
