Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.2.5 Release

Post by Lord Phobos » Sun Dec 23, 2018 4:09 am

Hi

Maybe that is a trivial question, but...

By mistake, in the update process with the automatic package I choose "ftp" instead of "manual".
I need to change that, but the process "remember" my choice and I cannot undo it.
When I click on "update" in the /install folder, it always tries to update via ftp, obviously failing.

I tired clearing cache, but to no avail.
Can you help me?

Thanks.

you should not be using the auto update method.

you should be following this process:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... ating-32x/

however, after making a backup you should remove the folder named store even though the instructions say not to.
there are files in that folder that make the update process think you are still trying to use the auto update.

it is easier to just remove the store folder and replace it with all the other files/folders.

if the store folder winds up having some files that relate to extensions you have installed you can replace those folders/files into the new store folder later.

Why should we not use the auto update package? I have the same prob as the previous poster. Mine times out, but does not allow me to change from FTP. I've used auto before and it went smooth. I changed the time out before I started to 30 seconds, but it gives time out error instantly. My site now works after deleting the install folder, but I left the new vendor folder there because it overwrote the old one. I am going from 3.2.3 to 3.2.5. Any help for dummies appreciated. ;)

are there language changes since 3.2.4?

edit://
found it. Only one little text change, no additions, no deletes.
Webseite, Blog, Wiki Deutsche Übersetzungen - german language files
My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.

My forum didn't go offline when the install/ folder was uploaded. That's a first. For the rest, perfect update!

I have to use auto update, as I slightly changed some of the original file.
It always went very fine for me, but this time I only hit by accident the "FTP" option, and just need to undo that choice.
How?

Test this...
Delete all files (make backup before) to /store/ folder except .htaccess and index.htm

Run again: http://www.yourforum.com/forum/install

what files did you edit? if they were style files then that does not matter since the update will not update custom styles anyway.

That worked a charm, thanks.

There are changes in language files?
If yes, which file and which lines?

Thanks.

Just did the 3.25 Update.
Seems to have gone off without a hitch.

Reason: Merged into the main 3.2.5 release topic. Thanks a lot for the compliment though!
I'm staying with 3.25 till Database downloads is restored, and I see that a upgrade release isn't going to break my board
