Notification for new posts

Post by jj2007 »

Hi everybody,

Searching the FAQ and the extensions did not produce what I looked for, therefore my question:

Is there a simple way to get notified of new posts in a phpBB forum? You know, the way Thunderbird or WhatsApp (for example) shows you a little white box in the lower right corner saying "emails arrived" or "you got a message"...

The reason is that I am active in several forums and want to be alerted of replies and new posts without staring all the time at these pages in my browser. Two of these forums are run with a software that allows downloading a file using something like hxxps://forum.strawberries.com/index.php?action=unread, and afterwards I can check the file for the string <No unread topics found>. If I don't find that text inside the downloaded file, I know that new posts are available, and open the 'unread' URL. Simple and effective, I just need (and have) a software that checks once in while if new posts arrived.

So what would be the phpBB equivalent for this little hack?

Thanks for feedback and Happy New Year :D

If you're looking for something that isn't in the default phpBB package you should search the extensions forums and, if you don't find anything to suit your needs, you can make an extension request.

If I am not totally missing the point

Code: Select all

https://www.phpbb.com/community/search.php?search_id=unreadposts
should exactly be what you are looking for. No need for an extension.

Subscribe to al the forums?
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
