[Guide] How to create an offline mirror of your phpBB forum with MAMP

Post by teebling » Fri Feb 08, 2019 6:21 pm

Hey phpBB!

I made a step-by-step guide to creating a fully functional offline mirror of your phpBB site using MAMP.

This is very useful for any phpBB admin because it lets you:
  • Make modifications to templating, theme or core files for development purposes
  • Carry out database maintenance and experiment with user permissions or new forums
  • Test new extensions, styles, smiley packs, official updates etc.
  • Easily deploy updates to your live forum without having to re-upload everything
  • Create a LAN and connect physical mobile or tablet devices for testing responsive design
I hope you guys find this useful.

One point that I would make is never, ever zip/unzip on the server - it has been known to corrupt the file structure

or you could follow this tried and tested method Knowledge Base - Transferring Your Board to a New Host or Domain
